OCing a notebook CPU is very difficult and even slightly dangerous but the GPU is definitely overclockable. Also make sure you get rid of most of the bloat ware that comes with Dell notebooks and have as few apps running in the background.

Check and see if any games you will be playing have a setting or registry change to allow full use of dual-core. I'd also recommend a clean reinstall as suggested.

well i took wmce 2005 off and installed winxp pro fresh (Im assuming that was a good move????). I will be playing Fable, Halflife 2, UT 2004 dvd edition and probably fear and or oblivion at some point. do any of those have dual core support?

My Vista Home premium should be coming sometime in February so I will have to format again LOL

BTW- Is it worth installing the MacOS X for intel on the E1505 and maybe dual booting?

Oblivion has some config file settings that allow it to use some dual core.

    Google oblivion tweaks.

Yes probably a good move to upgrade to XP Pro, also when you upgrade to Vista youw ill probably have to get 2 gigs of ram if you haven't already. As far as mac on a Dell, as far as I know there is no legal port for PCs yet, if your interested in that kinda stuff you might as well try Linux. something like these might be interesting. But expect to spend a little time setting them up.

This thread will give you an idea as to how well you can expect the X1400 to perform. The X1400 is actually slightly better than the Go7400 but they are extremely close

You should overclock it, download the latest drivers, defragment/clean hard disks, delete all programs you don't need, and set windows for performance.

I think I read somewhere about Oblivion loading up stuff in the background. My e1505 shipped with the dual-core registry stuff a-okay. Fable, UT, and HL2 will run great. Oblivion is the game you'll have to OC for. 1280x800 medium settings should do you then.

No, unless you enjoy having no sound, no wireless and only being able to use one processor core.

That's correct. Overclocking I could get a max of 560/545, though others have got slightly higher.

Ok I have done extensive tests on my own card, and I can safely say that (at least in my case) overclocking the x1400 isn't worth it. I gained about a 3% increase in performance, but everytime I OC the memory any further the screen artifacts straight away. I have tried all types of forceware but to no avail. I think the best option is to upgrade the card, as I'm fairly certain dell offer it in MXM type II format:

As far as tweaks go...read Chaz's post on upgrading the drivers, as I know ati are a pain in the ass for the latest catalyst drivers, and use ati tray tools to play around with the settings. I wouldn't go with omega drivers personally because I had many many problems with games like bf2, and simply not that much increase in performance (we're talking like an extra 5 fps if that!).

    Hope this helps ;)
