    Guys,

Can you please post close-up pictures of the front and back sides of your HD5850M/5870M video cards? I would like to identify the Voltage regulator being employed for a possible Pencil Mod. Also, I would like to identify the stock max VDDC Voltage. I have a feeling that you can go up to 1.1V via software means alone.

    Thanks!

I don't have any pictures, but I can say something about the voltage. My MSI Whitebook's M5870 originally had a vBIOS with only 2 clock settings: 200/[email protected] and 700/[email protected]. I changed these values by editing and reflashing the vBIOS (before flashing new, official vBIOS from MSI). Also, I think that Clevo's M5870s run at 1.15V

    PS.
If You dig deep enough, You will find good pictures of M5870s on NBR Marketplace.

Do you think flashing a 5850m with a 5870m VBIOS will work? Can you post your 5870M VBIOS? I'd like to take a look at it.

    Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't risk it in a laptop, as there is no way of flashing the primary vBIOS back in case the secondary doesn't work. The M5850 overclocks just as well as the M5870, so I wouldn't worry about swapping the vBIOSes of the cards, because there is no tangible difference between them.

Here is the original vBIOS from my laptop:
