50 Dollars more expenssive netbooks wtih dedicated graphics? I can't wait!

To be ready for in-store purchase, I would say late next year. It could be anyone's guess at this time anyways.

it's still very limited by the cpu. despite the graphic increase. it's about the same performance as the current asus n10j. can barely play most recent game at the very lowest setting by overclocking the cpu to 2.1 ghz.

i would really like to see a stronger cpu in these tiny netbook instead of the atom n270

    >.> it really wasn't meant for gaming, it was more meant for HD video playback.

However, if netbooks are 'upgraded' too much, they'll just become normal laptops with a very small screen. They'll probably become a bit heavier and larger too, as increased performance may need better cooling... it's a slippery slope.

I just hope netbooks will stay small, cool, quiet and affordable. There are plenty of small fast gamer-compatible laptops out there already ;)

Performance should jump a bit once the new dual core Atoms arrive.

dual core atom sounds very nice. the atom 1.6 is just too slow for me right now.

yeah, COD4 can run it. really awesome.

How strong is the 9400m though?

How is it compared to 8400 and 8600?

Will this Ion have DDR3 Vram? And will it make a difference?

the video only shows that cod4 is barely playable, it was getting about 10-20 fps (no where near 30 avg as the guy in the video says). i think it's to do with the cpu though, as other laptops with c2d and weaker graphics cards did better.

I'll give CoD 4 a try on my N10J which has the same Atom CPU, but 9300m GS with 256MB dedicated RAM. It surprisingly runs games like Fallout 3 great. The CPU overclocks to 2.0 or 2.1GHz for most people, which makes most games more than playable.

From my experiences with my MacBook, the 9400m beat out the 8400GS, but only slightly. The 8600 was a step up.

DDR3 will give a little boost to integrated graphics, but remember, these netbooks are budget machines. Expect DDR2 only, maybe some luxury models with DDR3.

Doesn't ION also have a much better power consumption than the current platform? More performance with an improved battery life at almost the same price point? Hell Yeah!

From what I have read netbooks with the Ion platform are coming in Q2 of 09,(we could all hope) but another interesting thing I have recently read is that Nvidia might actually come out with there own netbook, what the exact specs might be are unknown now but it should be really interesting if this comes around.

I hate it when people say this. Mabe they should drop the netbook title, and call them something else. The smaller screen is what I really like about them. If they can make these things as powerful as possible, I'll buy. Even if it took twice the amount of power, it would still get 3 hours on a 6 cell battery, and this won't happen because the ION platform is made for low power.

I would gladly pay $800 for an 8.9" notebook that can play all the latest games with decent settings. The fact that it can do 1080P videos and has HDMI out is a huge plus. I currently keep my Aspire One in my pocket almost all of the time, (yea, it fits snugly) and if I could have the power of a lightweight gaming notebook that plays COD4, CS:S, TF2, SC2 etc. AND can literally fit in my pocket, I'll be happy.

Buy an Asus N10J if you want something comparable. It runs everything great. The 9400m is more than capable, but it's on a PCIe x1 bus only. However, it is is still limited by the Atom CPU. Most Atom CPU's in the N10J overclock to 2.0 or 2.1GHz just fine, and allows for pretty much all games to be playable. Heck you can even play Crysis Warhead on minimum settings at 800x600 if you can live with 15 fps.
