I was wondering, is any of the very/cheapest cheap netbooks any good for basic gaming.
Of course it will have to come with Windows. Thinking of games like Locomotion/Transport Tycoon, turn based wargames, perhaps DOS emulator for much older games, etc.

When I say netbooks I mean those very small (8-10 inches monitor) notebooks that weight from 0.9Kg to 1.5 and cost a couple of hundrend GBPs/euros.

Anyone here as experience with them? I already know that the HP2133 is too slow for any such task.

Netbooks can probably play 2D games fine, and old 3D games (which may depend on the integrated videocard).

Some of the netbooks coming out are using Intel GMA900/950 IGPs... which can actually play games like Far Cry at low resolutions.

Coupled with upcoming dual-core Intel Atoms and VIA Nano's, you can probably do some decent old skool 3D gaming fine.

Oh, Intel Atom is dual core? I didn't know that.

I might get one as a back up notebook and safety net but it's nice to know it could play some games.

Not all of them I think, the new Asus Eee sports a 1.6GHz Intel Atom but not dual core.
Theres a video floating around YouTube of a guy managing to get ESIV: Oblivion to work on his 900MHz Eee. :D
