Never been able to play any PC games besides Starcraft and Diablo II, what are the best FPS and RPGs out there?

Getting a tricked-out sweet- bomb-dig laptop to replace my four year old macbook. What are the best games I should experience? I am currently planning on getting now or when they are released:

    Amnesia
    Just Cause 2
    STALKER Series
    Red Orchestra 2
    Battlefield Series
    Starwars Republic Commando (woot woot)
    The Witcher 2
    GTA 4
    Borderlands
    Amnesia
    Team Fortress 2
    L4D2
    Dead Island
    Mass Effect 2
    Skyrim

What am I missing? In addition what are some PC games that were never released on console that I might not have heard of? Give me your best :D

If you haven't played it, the Half Life 1 (+2, + episodes) series is regarded as one of the best FPSs of all time.

Well every single one of those were on console, except Witcher 2, STALKER and Amnesia.

If you like strategy games, the Total War series.

Battlefield Series (get BF2 and BC2, no others are important...)
Starwars Republic Commando (THIS GAME SUCKS) worst FPS made IMO
GTA 4 (I hope you have a quadcore+uber video card....)
Mass Effect 2 (ME 1 is waaay better)

Knights of the old republic should be on your list, along with Oblivion, Fallout 3,

Man it would be better if you didn't list any game, then it be easier to give you all the game that I think are great!

Mount&Blade Warband (it's a PC exclusive). Oh yes.

Don't get With Fire and Sword though, that's less highly rated.

Yeah what I meant by that is I'm open to any games, but have played a lot of console games but not a lot of PC exclusive titles, so I'm looking for all different platforms, but dont know a lot about whats on PCs.

    And I've got a quad core i7 CPU with a GeForce 560M 1.5GB GPU.

What does that have to do with anything? Why would anyone want the lowest quality version of a game?

You could just wait for Diablo III and stick with the trend.

I'm currently playing the Witcher enhanced edition, eventhough i'm only at the beginning it seems very promising (was named the best rpg of 2007, and its graphics still look good today imo).

And ofc if you are going to get skyrim, you should start with oblivion first ;-)

Other games that I enjoy are the Total War series.

Unless OP is a baseless PC elitist, most good AAA titles are multi-plat. Get with it.

Usually PC exclusives are either indie or temporary (e.g. Witcher 2 is an exclusive for a few months before they release console versions).

moviemarketing brought up a very good point, I forgot all about mods. And I've played the crap out of Morrowind/Oblivion on the Xbox/360, several hundred hours into both, but now have access to mods and will probably go for it again. What games have the best mods? I've already played through Half Life 2 and the episodes many times, but will be getting those again once more for the mods. Thanks guys :D

    CS/CS:S

Sits on the throne above all other FPS titles. CS:S has a pretty decent amount of mods too (zombie mod is pretty good... if you're thinking about nazi zombies then no, just no).
