Unless there is something being misreported about the understand about the card, I would guess this score is due to driver issues (it hasn't been out long enough for optimized drivers to be released). The 9800M GS shouldn't have a lower score than a 9700M GTS -- it has the same clocks, the same memory bandwidth and more shaders so it should be at least equal (on a test that ignores the shaders) and more likely somewhat better. Also, I can't think of an example where an Nvidia card with a higher second number was inferior to another card of the same generation (regardless of the suffix).

The GS is like the business class line of cards, they never really were meant for performance gaming, just mild gaming.
Even though its a 9800, I would easily think a 9700 with a GTS or GTX level code would beat it, as those are there enthusiast gaming levels.
Id assume it to be about equal to the 9700GT, but run cooler and more efficiently and then have more power via overclock but so far I have not found a way to overclock the G50V so I very highly doubt it will be possible on the G50VT since they are not MXM cards, even ripping and modding the video card bios did not work for me. -

hey this deal sounds really nice, but i was thinking of getting a used Asus G50Vm-X1 for $900:
Processor: Intel Core Duo Mobile 2.00 Ghz (OC'd to 2.25 ghz) T5750
Screen Size: 15.6"
Memory: 4 GB of DDR2
HD: 200 GB SATA 7200rpm
Optical Drive: Double-layer dvd+writer
Graphics: Nvidia 9700GT 512mb dedicated memory
should i buy this or the one from bestbuy with 9800 gt? or the gs as most call it now?
is it worth the $300 extra spending for a 9800 gt/gs over 9700gt?
plus the resolution seems weird for that 9800
