My HP 8510w has the 570 Quadro card which is just an 8600GT with different Bios. Anyways I want to update to the new drivers, but they block O/Cing which is bad as my card O/Cs very very well, from 475/700 to 630/900. Anyone with a Quadro 8600GT based card get around this issue and how? BTW I am using Vista Business.

guys, right now, i don't see a real reason for overclock. 8600 is a really nice card that handles most games pretty good right now, at least for me. when crysis will come out, that's when u should consider clocking it...

Never mind what you think. Its my notebook so I can do what I wish with it. Unless you have something to add that will help solve the issue, don't post. Plain and simple.

The newest version of Rivatuner allows OC'ing with the newer drivers, but you have to make sure you've cleaned all older drivers and all older versions of Rivatuner. Check out the Rivatuner forums for more help.

Or you can install newer driver over older drivers. That allowed me to OC (using 163.67 right now)

Of course you can do what you like, but don't be an ass about it.

For those people who care not about battery life, overclocking is great.

Well, gaming on battery life is not recommended anyways, so OC'ing won't really affect battery life.

Just to let you know O/Cing the card has zero effect on battery because you are only O/Cing the 3D performance clocks.

Some of us don't buy notebooks which only stay powered for two hours or less regardless.

not while you are Idle. This why you have thee sets of clock speeds.

    2D
    low power 3D
Performance 3D which is the only one you O/C and is only used during 3D intense apps like CAD, gaming, ect...

I keep my Laptop Underclocked at 2d-clocks all the times, except for when I game. Keeps it a few degrees cooler.

Not for the 8600m gts. If you can overclock in one driver and not another, then it's the driver, and not the bios.

When did I say overclocking was a bad option for *you*? For those who game on battery, it wouldn't be the greatest of ideas. That's all I pointed out. What point are *you* trying to make?

If you succeeded overclocking with the 16x.xx drivers, please state with what OS/drivers/card/OC software you succeeded with.

I've seen people being able to overclock with the new drivers, but perhaps it doesn't apply to all OS or graphic cards out there.

163.77 won't OC yet, however you can OC with the newest version of rivatuner and the 162.18, 162.22, 162.50, 163.16 and 163.44 drivers.

I've used them on an 8400M-GS with no problems OC'ing, just make sure your previous drivers are completely cleaned, and all previous versions of rivatuner are uninstalled (I think you use the rivatuner.exe /ud command, though I'm not sure, check the rivatuner forums for more info).

I think its an 8600GT core thing. And its definitely driver related as far as the lock goes.

The drivers I mentioned in my previous post are not locked with the newest rivatuner. The we know the 8600M-GT's bios or firmware is not to blame, as it works fine with older drivers. My guess is that those who can't get it to work aren't properly setting up the drivers and/or rivatuner.
