    hello all,
i just recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A135

i have just dl'd Steam and am really wanting to play CS 1.6 ... i have been for quite some time now ... but when i go tp play. i get 30 pfs in the main menu, but when i click on anything that opens up a new window, it automatically drops doen to about 5 fps. when i play in any map in 1.6, my fps ranges from 5 - 20 fps. it is 20 fps if the object is right in from of me, and my fps is 5 when i am walking and looking straight ...

is there any way that i can get higher fps? i already tried fps_max and increased it to 100 ... but that didnt do anything.

i also tried to reduce the res. and it didnt change at all!!! ugh

    i am running on
    OS: Vista
    DX10
    1 GB ram
Graphics card: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM express Chipset Family (whatever the hell that means)

i have tried to max the performance on the graphics card, but the most i can do is click default settings ...

Intel GMA 950 which is an integrated graphics device, also 1gb ram where up to 224mb is shared by the 950

In all seriousness, set the power thing to max performance so the cpu runs full speed so software shaders run faster, or set cs to run in dx 8.1 or 7.0 mode.

you could also try to update your drivers from the intel website, but I don't think that they are optimised for gaming

Sorry to say that Intel(R) 945GM is worse than x3100 that is a low gaming card...so your low framerates are normal cause you have an IGP

I'll have to second this I'm afraid, seriously don't waste your time over it, you won't get higher performance from this integrated graphics processor. Not sure if you can even call it a graphics card :-(. Its peformance is a LOT below even X3100 which is also an IGP, but much more powerful and you can actually play some older games with it on low rez and settings.

The GPU you've got was never designed to play any sort of complex 3D games, unless they're from 1999 :).

There is a thread somewhere on the forums that lists all IGPs/ mobile GPUs out there in hierarchy, might be best looking there.

To give you an idea, there's five or six classes of mobile graphics cards, Class 1 being the strongest and Class 5/6 being the weakest. Your card is bottom of Class 5/6 I'm afraid :)

Well the bad news is that if it's a laptop, you can't change the graphics :(. All you can do is sell/return the lappy you just got and buy a new one, with decent graphics :). You would have to buy online though, you don't normally get dedicated GPU laptops in stores, and if you do they are ridiculously overpriced.

That's really weird though, CS 1.6 is an ancient game... the GMA945 SHOULD be able to run it well... my old Radeon Mobility 9000 IGP could run CS 1.6 with no problems... (but I don't know how good the 9000 actually is). You've tried updating graphics drivers?
