I recently got my laptop with a new GPU (under extended warranty) to replace my old 8400M GT and this one runs alot hotter than my last.

I played some Counter Strike and the GPU peaked 85C.

Is this normal? :S Yes my card is OC'd but has been for my last too, which only reached in the 70's

Sounds like the heatsink may not be as well mated as the first one was. But 85C isn't too exceptionally high as far as Nvidia chips are concerned. You could send it back, or open it up and try to reapply the heatsink paste.

It could also just take some time to cure. Give it a week of gaming and see if the temps drop.

You might want to check to see if the heat sink is placed correctly, or it could be the burn in on the new thermal paste

I am not quite sure how to do that. Could anyone link me to a guide on how to replace the heatsink?

And ive been gaming for about an hour now and the new record temp is 91C...oh boy.

Was your 8400M GT replaced with another 8400M GT?

My Asus G51VX GPU hits 94C gaming for 1+ hour.

Have you though about trying the copper mod?

I would do a few things.

    1. Return to stock speeds for now
    2. Give the thermal paste a week to cure. If temps are still noticeably higher then, then contact Sony and tell them of your issue. If you can show that you've been monitoring your temps and that they're significantly higher and that you suspect poor mounting of the new GPU, that should be enough to have them re-install it.
    3. You could try and look at the notebook yourself, but that often creates more problems than it fixes. If it's under warranty, I would have them fix it.

    I agree with crash.

By the way, when your old card was swapped out with this one, was it because the old card was fried?

I only ask because you said you have OC'd your old card and this card, and the current card replaced your last card.

Nope i dont know about it. But if it involves opening up my laptop im afraid it would be too risky for me lol
I think ill do just that. Although i think that the thermal paste does need some time to burn in

I dont know if it fried completely but it was dying yes. My old 8400M GT had been OC'd at the speeds it died at for about 2 years prior.

The max temps i recorded were 75C
