yeah, looking forward to the game, and even saw it at Target and almost bought it, but when will it hit Steam? That's what I'm waiting for!

EDIT: And yes, own all previous STALKERS

Best one yet I have to say, this one has just blown me away... I mean the performance is unbelievable. Nothing like what I was getting on the benchmark demo. I have everything maxed out in DX10 2X AA and only sun rays at medium. The game stays around 30 + during the day, seen it jump to 60 at night depending on the location. It took GSC 3 tries (4 if you count Codename: Outbreak... So awful). a few more pics... and yes that is a room full of Bloodsuckers, you thought they were creepy before? They are sleeping standing up...

Speaking of which, where's the guy with the 21:9 triple-head-to-go system? I want to see some screens of that!

This game is great, the climate is same as before, mutants are slightly more "clever" and the side quests are really really interesting. I've enjoyed the game a lot and recommend this game to anyone who played the previous STALKER's or like such type of games.
IMO the best of STALKER's, I just wish it could have been longer, but the maps are huge which "mentally" extends the whole gameplay.
I did not get a single bug throughout the whole game.

I could run the Game on full res (1366x768) x 4AA, high settings with slight with ~28 FPS on my ASUS. The graphics are bit old, but for me it adds climate to the game.

On the side note, it's actually one of the first games to support DX11.

I suffer from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. curse... Hours pass while I am in the zone, suddenly the day is gone. BioShock 2 sits unopened... ROFL!!!

I have never played any of the stalker series, do you guys recommend I start from the beginning or will jumping straight to this one not matter?

It will be interesting to see what settings I will be able to play at when I receive my laptop in the next few days.

EDIT: Since the first game was only £5.64 on Amazon.co.uk I have ordered that and will patch it and start from the beginning. It sounds like too much of a great game to skip. Along with the first Assasins Creed and a whole load of other games, looks like I won't be getting to any sequels any time soon haha.

I suggest you play the game in timeline order - that would be Clear Sky, Shadow of Chernobyl and then the newest Call of Prypiat - this order will let you understand the plot compeletly :)

The A-Life has really been let off the leash they had it on for SoC and Clear Sky. The random events are cooler than anything scripted we see in the typical rail shooter. Last night hiding from an emission in the back of the barge looking out the crack in the hull of the ship, I saw a lone Stalker running to the safety of the barge. Turns out I had met him earlier I gave him a medkit and saved his life at the weapons deal shootout he was green indicating a friend. The emission was about to start and the sky was flashing with lightning strikes, I was thinking run buddy, run!!! Part way there he was intercepted by a pack of blind dogs, he was able to kill two and the other ran off, but I knew it slowed him down too much. I knew he is never going to make it... The sky was turning red and the ground began to shake, and my friend fell face first into a bog and died... He was so close I heard the splash as he landed partly in the water.

Before quitting last night I went to talk to a pair of bandits that were camping by the cranes near the bridge. I asked them where to find the Stalker I was looking for (still looking for actually), they had not seen him and were a bit rude. So I went up the crane to see the closest camp. As I went up the stairway on the side of the crane two pseudodogs ran past. I had seen them before running around the map they appear to be chasing one another. Anyway they ran right into the bandits and slaughtered the pair of them in seconds. Both pseudodogs bounded off down the hill chasing each other again...

Tonight I have arrived at Yanov train station (It is late night in game as well) I am still looking for the stalker. I get an emission warning just after I left the safe return radius of the train station. I ran as fast as I could to the nearest safe area. I arrived at an abandoned factory with a large tower as a part of it. I have taken refuge in the basement of what may have been an office. At last safe... then I hear the mad ramblings of a zombie down the hall... Uh oh... and then just as bad the hideous squeal of multiple mutant rodents... I was dead in seconds, the rodents got me first, just as a zombie shambled around the corner and shot me in the face.

This game is unforgiving and extremely hard. If run and gun is how you play (CoD, Halo, etc...) then this game is not for you. If you want a game you can truly immerse yourself in (I had a nightmare about the raid on the Substation workshops controlled by Mercs last night) that is how intense it can be, then you need S.T.A.L.K.E.R. all of them. Every time you play this game it is different, the base story is the same, but how you get there is always different... SoC and Clear Sky are the same. I am glad the desolate lonely feeling has returned to the zone (Missing in the overcrowded Zone of Clear Sky, but hey, that was part of the story, to see the effects Strelok's actions had on the zone). Call of Pripyat is a perfection (or close to it) of what GSC had intended all along. Games like this are what the PC needs, to remind us that not everything needs to be a CoD or Halo clone. Given the price of Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky, there is no reason not to get them, and the sheer amount of amazing Mods will keep you playing for a long time. I played vanilla (out of the box, patched) Shadow of Chernobyl for 9 months straight (on one game). I hope that other developers see the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and open up their own potential. Games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat make it worth being a PC gamer, when most devs abandon us for the quick buck of console games. Anyway, that's my story so far and my 2 cents... XD

Darkness62, you explained exactly how i felt about this series. I played call of pripyat and now i just bought the other 2 and im starting from CS to SoC to CoP over again and play all 3 games back to back so i can get to know the story better and get what CoP was really all about. I love this series and to me this game looks better than even Crysis on max setting. Its gorgeous immersive and has just gotten me into Open World FPS games, i bought Fallout 3 and Borderlands cause of this game.

I reccomend the stalker series to anyone.

yeah the gameplay is interesting (even from starting), although there is a really steep learning curve.

I wouldn't recommend CoP to just anyone tho...better give an 'EERIE' warning first :)

Dude, I can't help but say that what you wrote there could be considered one of the most raw and authentic reviews covering the immersive aspect of this series. Hell, I think the personal touch puts most professional reviews to shame.

    Very well written.

Anyway, you running the game on your Clevo? You know, QX9300/280m GTX SLi? What settings, and how is the performance?

Its a cracker - havent been this sucked into a game for ages.

One quick Q for those who are further in that me - does it matter whether you do/dont do the missions for the boss guy in the ship (attacking the other ship etc)? Does it affect your future relations with other groups?

    Thanks in advance

I read in a review that this series of games are in a class all by itself, which I agree with since I've played the previous 2 installments and am now playing C.O.P.

It takes awhile to get acustomed to the gameplay and even on normal mode, can at times, be difficult, which I like, but if you stick it out you will find all of them to actually be great games !

I just updated my S.o.C. copy to the 2009/2010 mod that implements high resolution textures, and better lighitng/ambient occlusion. Excellent stuff.

Now I'll start my game by resuming from Clear Sky, since that is the prequel.

That Mod just rules. It even improves AI, adds many new features, nice touches such as enabling enemies to drag the bodies of their downed buddies. That Mod has too many additions to even begin to mention here of course. I averaging 45 fps and more on my laptop with that with almost everything on high and native resolution with no stuttering or slow downs at all. Love that game!

I was also going to start with Clear Sky but even though they label it as the official prequel, I still decided to play the one that was released first instead.

Fair enough, and I can even see certain interesting advantages to starting in that order.

I got S.o.C. like when it was new. So I wanted to play the game that was less on the visuals first, and then move up from that point. Unfortunately, I never got the time to really give the game a proper run, and then Clear Sky came out with its awesome lighting engine, and I got started on that one instead. So now with this mod for the first release, I am really motivated to go through all three games in order of story-line chronology.

Anyone, I purchased Stalker COP on friday from Steam... So my wife and I are both playing it now on his and her alienwares. My question is this... Can you add the mods listed above to the original STALKER if you purchased it on steam? I got it a while back but was very taxing on my m17. Thanks for the great reviews. That is what sold me on the game and it is outstanding so far.

    Best Wishes,

    StevenX
