That bugger will essentially outclass any older 5790/1 laptop.
    Bummer...

Sager better refresh their 15 inch line of laptops... I really want a competitor from Sager to the m15x

All Gateways to me look a little cheap and flimsy, but for a budget laptop, their pretty big sellers. This one looks like it's trying to enter a new field of notebooks...

at first i was like drooling over the 8800 and the price but then i realized that it is only the gts and i just ordered a sager 5792 with the gtx. some people say that the gts, in terms of performance, only functions around the 7900 (not sure). anyway, i find gateway computers really cheap (in a bad way, like cheap build).

I hope gateway revamps their cooling systems. Every notebook my family has had from them always has overheating issues.

If Dell or Sager or HP make one similarly priced, I might bite. Only if it comes with XP though.

If that were the case, then the 8800GTS is no better than the 8600M GT that I have. Since the 8700M GT is at least somewhat better than the 8600M GT, it'd be REALLY wrong to have the 8800GTS doing worse than that.

Anyone seen any benchmarks for the mobile GTS?

I've seen two, both with short reviews of the new HP HDX 20" notebook. It looks like the 3DMark06 score ranges from 7,500 to 7,900. However I believe this is on Vista64 which may or may not have decent drivers for the card.

These notebooks look great, looks like they are shooting for the enthusiast-on-a-budget market. Only one problem with that... they don't let you custom configure them. I have been shopping for a multimedia/light gaming rig for one of my employees this week, and this looked like a contender, unfortunately the $1300 version has a 1.66GHz processor which will not do at all. There's no middle ground between that and the $2000 version, which I do not like. More options is better, although perhaps their low prices are partly due to the lack of configuration.

Acording to cnet, the $1600 one has a T7250 processor, that one is clearly a midpoint between the $1350 of the model being offered by BB and the one at $2000 offering a Penryn T8300.

    Here is the article: http://ces.cnet.com/8301-13855_1-9842885-67.html

Didn't another company buy Gateway? Who was it? I still have an old Gateway notebook with a 133mhz Cpu it still runs great! I forget what year it was made. Gateway's looks are plain but well built and have the right parts.

hmm... a 3dmark score of 7000+ isn't all that bad (gts)
happy to see all these other major brands offering something really close to enthusiast. hopefully the build is good and not crappy. for some reason, they always make the vents really small.

the $1300 has a P motherboard, which means its compatible with penryn, so you could spend another $250 and throw a penryn in it

Is it light? Specs listed 8.3 pounds which seems too light to me. Did you weigh it with the battery in?
