I have recently got into gaming. I bought a laptop and was wondering if anyone could give me some hints on what games would be appropriate. I dont want a game that wont work or will lag. I want smooth gameplay and to have a good time. Please reply soon.

HalfLife 2 and it's mods would be a good place to start. The Source engine is remarkably scalable. You'll definitely find the settings combo that is right for you. (first person shooter)

Battlefield 2 will be playable, but the engine is a bit of a pig. That 512 of ram will hurt you. (first person shooter)

Guild Wars is a nice mmoRPG that should run just fine. It may not be cutting edge, or the most engrossing of the RPGs, but there is no subscription fees, and a lot of people play.

Dawn of War is a fun Real Time Strategy game, that should run just dandy on your system.

Star Wars: Empires at War is the brand new real time strategy game everyone is gaga over. Dunno any of the specs, but that's the new shiny plaything.

Then, of Course, there is World of Warcraft. It should run just fine on your system, but beware, people get lost in that game. They start playing, and just...... never return.

I was including that in the whole HL2 section, but I get I didn't mention it specifically. Good call. Day of Defeat: Source is also a good one.
