Hello, I just got a new laptop and I don't know much about computers. It has a 8400M GT and I was wondering if it was a good laptop card. I would like to play games like BioShock / SC2 and other demanding software and I don't know if this GPU will be sufficient. Please tell me your opinions. Cheers.

Yes, that card is a good one and should play your games pretty good. How much video memory? (128mb/256mb/512mb) also, is it G-DDR3 or G-DDR2? Either way--its a nice card, if you want a more detailed opinion, answer those questions,,,also- what processor did you get? (Core 2 Duo/Pentium 4/etc.) --------------hope i could help

What laptop do you have, the Sony FZ?

Anyways, it's a pretty good card, right behind the 8600M-GS in perfomance (because it's clocked slightly lower). You should be able to handle Bioshock at around 1280x800 mediumish settings and some things turned off.

Should handle bioshock at medium @ WXGA easily. Starcraft 2 won't be demanding so you will definitely be able to run that.

The 8400M-GS is a medium to low end card designed for light gaming and graphics programs. I can get about 1500 max on 3Dmark06 and is the DX10 generation Geforce Go 7400. You can play those games fine in medium setting

I believe the OP has an 8400M-GT, which is noticeably better than the 8400M-GS.
