Hello everyone, I just ordered a Dell XPS M1330 and I was just wondering what kind of games it's capable of running. I'm not really a hardcore gamer but I'm interested with MMORPGs, RPGs, action/adventure, GTA games, Starcraft. Well, here are the specs.
Processor: Core 2 Duo (2.0 GHz)
Memory: 4GB DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics: 128 NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Screen: Standard Display
Hard Drive: 320GB
Battery: 9 Cell
I'm feeling kinda iffy about the graphics card and the processor speed, but I saw some people on YouTube running GTA and Crysis on the same system with around the same (or lower) specs. What do you guys think? Any suggestions for games that my system could run especially those in the same genres as I mentioned above?

I'm not much of a gamer, but I can vouch for Starcraft, but then again, that will pretty much run on anything. WoW I heard runs nicely on 128MB dedicated. I would expect light gaming would be no problem, but I wouldn't attempt Crysis for the sake of your new laptop!

Would it be possible to play those kind of games even on low-med settings (like maybe around 20-30 fps)?

try DotA (getdota.com)
or Mirror Edge/UT3. -
Using a laptop to play games is the luxurity habit ^^

GTA4 is out, san andreas and earlier GTA games will run fine.
Crysis will run ok in 1024 x 768 DX9, medium physics, maybe* medium textures and medium shaders if you can stand to lose a few fps. 960x600 or 800 x 600 would provide better performance.
ALOT of people have this card so you just need to use google to find out what it will run
WOW: Low - Medium @ 1280 x 800
Mass Effect: Low @ 800 x 600; barely playable
Fallout 3: Low @ 1024 x 768
The Witcher: Low @ 1024 x 768
Oblivion: Medium @ 1024 x 768(i use the streamline mod and low poly grass mod which improve performance)
Tomb Raider: Underworld: Low - Medium @ 1024 x 768, medium textures, shadows off, anisotropic filtering to 2x, anti-aliasing to off, adjust the rest to your liking. -
don worry bro, i have a 1.6ghz 256mb 6600 and i can run crysis on lowest. gta4 on lowest, quite laggy though. you'll definitely be able to play all these games

bioshock on mid settings ES4: oblivion on mid settings, with xp that is, i don't have vista so if u have vista, then idk

easiest way to find out if your laptop can run the games is to use Can I Run It

I use it a lot, and have had no problems with it, nor have I not been able to run a game it said I could. -

we all know its not 100% accurate but as xTank points out it will give you a rough idea. -
Well, WoW will run really well, you can max that
anything runs starcraft, and starcraft II should run at least on low
crysis, you can try 800x600 on low settings (may not be playable)
mass effect 800x600 low, playable
call of duty 4 1280x800 low, playable
most new games 800x600 low-mid, playable
hope that helped -
It will run most games today, if you can sacrifice screen resolution (run at 1280x800) and low or medium settings.
After playing games on my Asus N10J with the Atom CPU and 9300m GS I believe anything can run on any notebook with 8400m GS or higher.
I can play Far Cry 2, Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3 fine with most medium settings. So I'm sure the 8400m GS can handle this as well.
New Laptop... What kind of games can I play?
