I have 3-5 hours free 4-6 days a week while I'm at work and need something to fill the time. I've been playing WOW for the past year but got to the end-game and I'm tired of raiding. So I bought AOC but for whatever reason I don't care for it so after a 2 month break I came back to WOW but I've lost interest again.

So I'm looking for a new mmorpg but don't know what to get. I've considered LOTRO but the more I look at it I'm just not sure and I considered EQ2 but was wondering does it have PVP now (read that it didn't at release)? And are there any others I should consider besides just waiting for Warhammer?

A fine recommendation, that is the day Oblivion becomes an MMORPG instead of the single-player RPG it is at present.

Edit: Original post I quoted has been deleted, my recommendation would be Guild Wars if you haven't tried it. It's supposed to be quite fun and doesn't come with monthly fees.

    how about eve.......

seems like they are going to segregate the factions there so it could become rather interesting.

How far did you get in AoC? You'll really get into it by level 15 if you're on a PVP server.

I have 2 toons over 30 but I just didn't enjoy it that much. All out pvp with 0 penalties made it all seem pointless and as far as I could tell there wasn't much pve content.

Just looked at Eve and it seems a little slow-paced but I see there is a demo on Steam so I'm gonna download it tonight and try it out tomorrow. I would like to demo EQ2 and LOTRO but my internet tops out at 150kbps so it takes hours to download a few gigabytes.

EQ2 currently has a Living Legacy promotion, so all trial/subscribers can play FREE until july 31,2008, and they set u up w/ some xp potions to help boost the amount of xp u get. and if u subscribe u can get RoK and all the adv. packs for free. I got RoK (Ruins of Kunark) and 2 of the adv. packs free that way. i suggest if u do get into EQ2... whatever char u make, good/bad/ugly, and no matter what city u start it, GO TO TIMOROUS DEEP. it's a lot easier to lvl, more fun to lvl, and u get gear at like 15 that u can wear to ur mid-late 20's... early 30's if u don't hit too many named mobs. Btw, EQ2 does have dedicated PvP servers, i have a necro on one, and find it to be quite fun. imo, the PvP finally gives REASONS why Qeynos hates freeport and vice versa. opposing factions can't communicate. On PvE servers u can duel, and they have arena's also, and arena's where u can play as monsters and fight. came out w/ the first expansion, was really fun. They are 48 major updates to the game, there are lots of live/world events all the time, holiday events, all that stuff. most mature MMO i've ever seen *cough* WoW *cough*, w/ some of the best gfx. better than any except maybe AoC and Warhammer coming out, but EQ2 also has had a lot of time to mature and develop.

some aspects are slow pace.........but once you get to the half decent missions, and get into some ratting and eventually to pvp, and eventually to full scale war, it gets a bit more action packed :)

i quit because it was takign up too much of my time. (meaning every night for about 4 hours 2 before downtime and 2 after)

If you keep going back to WoW but want something new and refreshing ( and pvp based ) check out Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. You can find a lot of information about the game on their main page but at the same time there are a handful of other fan sites that are great for all the up to date, need to know information. I am currently in Beta for this game and it will launch during the Fall season of 2008.

Backing this if you need a window into Factional warfare my username is mothermoon. If you choose a vheokor tribe minmatar character I'll just take you right into the corp it'self. If not I can help you get the standings to join the war.

Or even if you want to fight for someone else I can still help you get into FW. :)

Plus lets all admit it, eve is pretty, and with the next 3 graphics updartews coming out including DX10 or whatever is better in 2 years(seen in the trailer at the end)

ambulation is coming out at the end of year and planatary combat with tanks and jets is coming out most likely a year after that.

    all expansions are free.

it's not the game for everyone though, but if you like it you'll like it :)

did you set a long skill to train? hehehe

I've quit before but the PvP just keeps bringing me back after another mmorpg bores me... I realyl love making other players feel the pain of loss! yarr.

If I ever leave leave I'll coup some corperation for billions of isk and give it to new players or buy 2 years of game time with it. (yes eve has offical support for paying with in-game moneya nd scams are officaly poart of the gameplay)

I played WoW since beta and quit about a year ago. Great game, I just got bored sick of it. I tried LOTRO after and got a character to 40, but just didn't get into it.
Two weeks ago I took over a friend's dead EQ2 account with the new incentives - can't go wrong with two free months!
I had played EQ2 in beta very briefly and wasn't thrilled at all (very sad since I had played EQ1 from release until years later). Playing the game now though is a very different experience. They've made a lot of changes since release and there is a ton of depth and lots to do. I'm usually the powergame type that picks my character and levels like crazy. There are so many class/race choices and character development options that most of my two weeks playing so far have been spent trying them out (and still only a few). I typically hate pet classes, but my latest creation is a necromancer and I'm really enjoying him (level 22!).
Tradeskills are even something I've been spending a lot of time on. Item creation is actually interactive, not the set-it-and-forget-it mode (WoW).

It won't suck me in for years like WoW did, but so far I'm planning on continuing the account when the incentive is over in July.
I recommend trying it out, especially since it's free right now.
And another recommendation if you do try it - start out in the new area (Kunark). The newer quests have vastly superior quest rewards compared to the old content (and zapping bird men out of the sky is good times).

I've played eq for 5 years, wow for 2, eq2 for 2 years, Vanguard for a few months.
I loved EQ, EQ2 sucked on release, but it's alot of fun now with PVP,and the bugs have been all worked out. The PVP Servers are packed, and the 2nd most populated. You know gain XP when PVPing, so it kills the twink game ( which is a good thing imo ) to an extent. I think you will enjoy it, the community is really good, and the graphics are good.
Vanguard sucks. I loved it at first, I realllllly did, it was everything I thought EQ could have been, but with all the bugs and empty content it had no place to go.
I would give EQ2 a shot, because IMO I think it's the best MMORPG out there. ( Having not tried AoC, it doesnt interest me at all ). WoW, is good, and was alot of fun for a while, but I missed Norrath.
Personally, if I can find enough time to play another one, it will be Warhammer online when it comes out. It looks great.
Oh, and if you get into EQ2, I have an old account lying around with alot of fun characters that I may give away if I feel generous.
