I'm somewhat new to the notebook scene.

I'm knowledgeable about the current cards. such as...

    Nvidia's 4xx & 3xx series.

    ATI's 5xxxx series.

However, when will Nvidia & ATI be releasing their new 5xx & 6xxx series? Early or mid 2011? Any info. about the new series?

    Could someone update me?

    Thanks.

ATI's 6000M series will probably be announced in the coming months, possibly at CES.

I guess I should wait for the new hardware to be released.

No point in purchasing anything now.

There will always be something better just around the corner.

True but "just around the corner" is always closer to the new year.

It's funny I was in "shopping mode", and I was neglecting the future, I just wanted to buy NOW! Then when I took a step back to look from the outside in - 2011 is only a month away.

I never bothered to look at the history of hardware release periods...I guess it's usually around February to April?

But, the 6xxx series are probably, literally, just around the corner.

I'm back to waiting for a new hardware refresh as I've been forced to cancel my Clevo order so I'm wondering whether there will be any new high-end (480/5870m equivalents) ready for retail by around February/March 2011. If new Sandy Bridge CPUs are out then I'll be even more tempted to look around again for a replacement for my Vostro.

The 6900M series should be out by then. As for Sandy Bridge... That will be most certainly, without a doubt be out by then. SB has been confirmed to release on January 5th, and the first laptops will probably release within two weeks of that. SB is in mass production and OEMs have the chips.

Looks like CNY next year will be a good time to pick up the new laptop if everything goes to plan.

my guess is CES for ATI... NVDIA will most probably refresh that time with rebagged 400M GPU's....
