So what do u guys think?? With the 9800m GTX out and not performing noticeably better than good ol 8800m GTX, what will be nvidia's next move?? what will have to be nvidia's next move to keep portable gaming in the market and so companies like alienware wont go bankrupt ;) Will we see a GX2m card, or maybe a GT280m?? when might it happen?? post your impressions and opinions and what do u think the next gen mobile GPU should have.

with 200w+ power consumption and that massive die size, it's likely to be severly crippled version, or it just won't fit in to even a 20'' laptop.

I have the next generation nVidia cards, they are called the Renegade GTX series. The engineering sample I have annihalates the ATI 4870X2 ;)

the laptop graphics versions are always much weaker than their desktop counterparts. usually the desktop line is three or more times as powerful as the laptop versons.

My guesses are variants of the GTX 200 series. The core will be built on the 55nm fab process, reducing the size of the cores, the heat generation, and power consumption. I'm going to guess the top end model will hold the shader count somewhere around the GTX 260 level, likely a bit lower, and will utilize GDDR5 which nVidia is finally starting to roll out on certain cards. GDDR5 performs faster the GDDR3, less heat, and less power, the standard stuff.

Who knows though. The GTX 2 series is still too big and too hot IMO for laptops. I believe nVidia should have gone with a 45nm fab for its new process, which would have allowed for placing these chips into mobile units.

Perhaps a more realistic expectation would be something like a 9850 GTX with the full 128 shaders of the G92+ core and a higher clock, closer to that of the 8800 GT desktop card, and utilizing the current 55nm fabtech found in the 9800 GT.

    Would be interesting to see.

No he wasn't! He took two 9800GTX cards, dismantled them, painted the heatsink a sparkly red color, put a 'renegade gtx' sticker on it... and voila!

hmmm... nvidia did screw up wid the GTX series. notice how they got screwed in every way from notebook gfx cards to desktop ones... and this happened right after they tried to "open a can of whoop ***" on intel... it feels like intel has a big hand behind all of these happenings... nvidia tried to mess wid the wrong company....

neways even if the renegade gtx card can annihilate the 4870X2 keep in mind that it is a nex gen card... so this means that there is a big chance 5870X2 will be better than it....

Ermm.. you guys are so into star wars time.
My prediction: ATI will deliver the more valuable chip (power price ratio) and nvidia still being the top dog, thou delivering defected chips :p

I'll be shocked to see a mobile GTX 200 series. While they may perform well with the GTX 280 being the fastest single PCB, single GPU on the mainstream consumer market, its production cost and yield is hurting nVidia's pockets, not to mention the Radeon HD4800 performing so well in addition to being cheaper. Nvidia will probably try to go for 40/45nm die production before they attempt another high-end GPU for mobile solutions.

The current 8800/9800M are already running quite hot and sucking down power like a fraternity with alcoholic beverages, and a mobile GTX 200 would just make matters worse.

Obviously a GTX200m is not going to be coming out anytime soon... The mobile versions are usually cut down and appear quite a while after the desktop versions. It was like almost a year before the 8800m series was released, and how long has the 9800 desktop cards been out? And we're just now receiving the 9800m cards within the last couple months.

Well 8x and 9x are the same core, hardly a comparison there. It was only about a month till 9M series came out. a little less I think. At 65nm, we'd never see GTX 2 on mobile. I'm sticking with a full featured 55nm 9850M GTX as the next card. 128 shaders @ 700/1800/2000 @55nm. Thats my guess.
