i wonder how hot that would get without all the cooling...

    hehehe

interesting he did it on HD2900XT as i thought the 8800 was the more powerfull of the two, and with more mature drivers...

950Mhz Memory speed? Isn't that a bit low? Did the site mean 1950Mhz or something??

If he's overclocking, why not go further and use better cooling? Nitrogen or something?

Do you have a Core 2 Extreme? Is everything overclocked to near-explosion? A gain of 6,000 points due to overclocking everything a great deal is not wholly unbelievable - I can gain over 1,000 points overclocking my CPU, RAM, and GPU less than 10%.

And to answer a couple of other questions - 950MHz is the RAM speed divided by 2, or the actually clock speed. Since it's DDR, double that to get the effective speed, eg: 950MHz x 2 = 1900MHz.

And the HD 2900XT performs better than the 8800s in 3DMark because ATi's drivers are designed to sacrifice a lot of image quality to make it that way when they see 3DMark running. nVidia's do too, for that matter, but not to the same degree. The 8800GTS 640, GTX, and Ultra are all vastly superior to the 2900XT in non-synthetic benchmarks.

Hmm...i think 2x8800GTX would score higher, especially combined with water cooling..but i can go wrong.

Here's the link to futuremark http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=3130234. But this result is not listed on 3dmark05 hall of fame here. And the first is "k|ngp|n EVGA 8800gtX | CORSAIR Dominator8888" with 32966. And 33,778 > 32966. So actually you can say 2x2900XT are slightly faster than 2x8800gtx.

The HD 2900XTs are 3DMark monsters. They outperform the 8800GTX in 3DMark but not games. Whoopdeedoo. ;)

Nice. I'm surprised he could get those RAM timings so low at such high speeds.

Pssshh, he's using 3DMark05. I wonder if he can break the SLI 8800GTX 3DMark06 record ...
