I had the same problem on my e1505. You should do as I think Chaz suggested. I deleted EVERYTHING ATi in the Add/Remove Programs list, then ran Driver Cleaner Pro to make sure everything was gone. Then the new Catalysts installed without a hitch.

Each time I try and launch the Catalyst Control Center with the NEW drivers, I get an error that says CLI has encountered an error. Here's the message:
This happens each and everytime I try to launch it. I have uninstalled the previous Omega drivers and used Driver Cleaner Pro, so I don't know what the problem is. Any ideas? Do I even need the Catalyst Control Center? Please HELP!
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Which drivers are "better", the Omega 6.7 Drivers or the new ATI 6.8 drivers? -
use the ati 6.8 drivers.
-
Hey, do you have this problem with Omega 6.7 when you run games, the game doesn't use up all of your screen?
-
Hey guy, do you think that the Mobility Catalyst 6.8 will offer any increase in performance for my Moblity Radeon X700? I know it's not a X1K series so this is why I'm asking. If there is no increase, I'll stick with my Omega 6.5.
-
yea i noticed that..and the proper VGA thing i fixed it by restarting the laptop and it worked

Uninstalling old ones and installing new ones:

Anyone know how to remove the Catalyst Control Centre link from the right click context menu? I disabled the ATi shell extension entry using the AutoRuns program from Sysinternals but it doesnt seem to have worked.
Suggestions? I looked for a relevant option within the Control Centre itself but couldnt see one. -
What's the difference, if at all, between the "Mobility Version" and the "Regular Version"?
-
you cannot install desktop driver in some laptop. Like mine.
For other laptop maybe it'll work -
If both work on my laptop, which one should I use?
-
Working fine here on Acer 1652z with X1300, which I was suprised at as in the past they won't install.
3dmark05 went from 1260 to 1264....PHWOAR!!!!! Bring on Unreal Engine 3.0 ! -
My CoD2 fps actually dropped about 10 fps. I was previously using Omegas. Mine also says it is version 6.7.
-
I dont get it?! the 6.8 version really downgraded the performence in games. Titan Quest runs in a low FPS and after a couple of min it crashes, in FEAR the characters are black and very low FPS, and in Counter Strike Source the loading times are more. I have a X1400 and when I uninstalled the 6.8 and reinstalled in Dell drivers everything went up. I run FEAR on max (except shadows and AA) on 1024x768 resolution with a 23 to 26 FPS!
-
I also have problems running F.E.A.R. If I use maximum Texture Resolution, there's strange graphical glitches and textures missing in some places. When set to medium, the game runs ok. I haven't tried the game with other driver versions than 6.8. I have X1800 so I think the game should run smoothly with all settings at max. This is strange..
I haven't had any problems with Oblivion. It runs smooth almost everything at max. Haven't tried it with AA+HDR yet... -
Well my performance is about the same actually, even with CoD2. Some of my settings changed which had an affect on the fps that I didn't notice.
also, does anyone know if the new patches in CoD 2 include the hyperthread patch or do I still have to dload that separately? I'm trying to run the game at 1920x1080 on my big A monitor but its pushing my x1600 pretty good. It could use all the help it can get. -
Ok, i think Catalyst 6.8 is not so good for Mobility x1800 cards. There may be performance improvement with the desktop's x1800 cards but definitely not with laptop's. My 3DMark05 score is over 50 points , 3DMark06 score over 100 points and PCMark05 over 250 points lower than with Catalyst 6.7. Also Oblivion crashes in 5-30 minutes of playing. F.E.A.R. can't be played with Maximum Texture Resolution. These issues mean too much for me.
I'm reverting back to Catalyst 6.7. -
hmm...i installed them and my 3dmark 05 score dropped by 100 points. not only that but the control center is showing that they are still 6.7 drivers. i uninstalled the ati drivers first, too. btw, i'm on a 5672 x1600.
-
my windows xp is automatically installing the x1600. how can i stop this... it's completely stopping me from changing the drivers. even after removing the drivers that windows auto-installs, and then installing the new drivers, windows automatically puts the old drivers back in.

edit: i followed that link that ronkotus posted (had to do it twice) and i got the omega drivers working. the first time i did it and tried installing the 6.8's it showed up as 6.7...so i figured it didn't work and went with omega.
question: is that normal for the 6.8's to show as 6.7? is anyone showing 6.8 as 6.8? if so maybe i had the 6.8's installed without even knowing it. pls msg me if you know. TY -
-
After installing the new drivers my control center still says i have 6.7 as well. did the installation not work?
-
According to the post here its just a typo, I just installed 6.8 tonite and it says 6.7 but I can see the difference so I feel that its true-----just a typo.
-
I didn't think standard drivers worked with mobile cards. They do?
-
Do I need to uninstall Catalyst Control Center with the driver or any other stuff related to the ATI before installing the new one? or will i just remove the driver and download ONLY the driver from that link?
