Just brought acouple of new games on impluse, dont no anything about either so was hoping for some positive feedback from you guys.
Gears of war (im worried about demanding specs)
and the Witcher, which looks like it could be a decent rpg.
So whats everyones thoughts and experiences with these 2 games.
Thanks
-
The Witcher was amazing, really great RPG, I quit Gears of War after a an hour or two. Just a bad console game.
-
I thought Gears of War was one of the best xbox 360 games ever...
-
Gears of War 2 is THE best game of XBOX 360, u can tell my patriotism to this game by my display picture. Of course GoW2 is an improvement but GoW1 was also F****** awesome and still is. GoW1 on pc shouldn't be any different, or even should be better since it released later on. But srsly, GoW is the best Third Person Shooter ever made in history of history!!
-
now thats what i was hoping to hear....just red some reviews of the pc version and they say its better than the 360 as it adds extra levels, better graphics and more multiplayer maps.......its fully supported but the windows xbox controller which interests me as i have one but havent found a game that fully supports it to date....im hoping for rumble effects and everything....
And i thought it was a FPS so when you said "best third person shooter ever" you just made my day, i was just saying to a mate i wish i could get my hands on a wickid 3rd PS as i havently played a good one for years........oh the original syphon filter on PS1 lol.
Cant wait to get home and install them.... -
I think they are both great games but it all depends on your personal tastes. But they are both well made and will give you hours of enjoyment.
-
Witcher (non-enhanced) kept me occupied for over 2 months, it's solid and the enhanced edition (which is easily obtained for free for those who bought early) removes practically all of the technical problems that plagued the initial release.
-
I didnt like gears of war (PC, I dont console) and quit it after a short while so I would have to disagree with best game in history. Gears of war seems to have a kind of yogurt like aura to it. Most people like it but some dont and if asked they wont be able to tell you why, they just dont like it.
Had a good time with the witcher. -
gears of war is great on PC and xbox 360
-
you have to admit though, it's too consoleish for pc gamers, compared to shooter that were developed for the pc like FEAR, Counter strike, day of defeat, ect..
-
im not sure what you mean mate, havent played either of the 2 next gen consoles but would like to hear what you mean?
I cant get the game to run anyway, witcher installed without a hitch(looks very promacing byu the way) but when i tryed to run gears of war after installation i kept getting a error message...something like " the file cannot be run, you cannot launch a modded exe file, please reinstall the game" its not the exact wording but something like that.........before anyone asks its a genuine copy and it also included a 1month windows live gold pack...(if anyone uses windows live and would like a free month please feel free to pm me and ill send them the activation code, i wont use it).....has anyone experienced a simular problem or is a clean install needed?.......what was very strange was the install took close to an hour to complete...i know the pc in my spec isnt a gaming rig but it should handle this game without to much problems. -
it just seemed to me that most pc shooters require much better aim and reaction.
-
Key words being " xbox 360 games" !
-
Well that being said I don't like Xbox, I'm more of a PS3 fanboy, but I haven't really grasped the concept were people here think console games are inferior to pc games or visa versa. I own multiple PCs and a PS3. I think both are great for different types of Games. RTS's and FPS have no contest on a PC, but 3rd person shooters/fighting games and single player RPGs are much better on a console, imo.
-
I wasnt intending to start a console vs pc war, just want a valid reason as to why gears isnt any good on the pc.......ive looked at afew reviews now and they all say the port was impressive adding more missions, inhanced graphics.....so i know its got nothing to do with that side of it.......so it must be gameplay.........i still cant get the game to run, im thinking ive a bad dvd or something.....ill try one more time when the power comes back on, then ill contct microsoft......really want to play this game and see for my self if ill like it........
-
I read on this forum a while ago that one problem is related to some kind of clock for activating the game... I don't remember clearly but the solution was to download some patch for the game. I am sure the game's official website should have a clear answer.
-
As I said I don't play console games but it isn't that I have anything against them in particular. Mostly its all available on the pc where I already have an investment in a decent computer that does everything I need to do. As to different styles working better on different platforms I see it a little different in that 3rd person shooters/fighting games are easier to control with a game pad rather than the keyboard mouse setup normally used on a computer. Not sure why you added single player rpgs as better on a console, I find these just find with the keyboard/mouse.
-
GEARS of War is pretty good on PC. It's a bit too easy though, but it's still good.
It's pretty well optimized as well, I used to play it in 1920x1200 max settings on an 8700m GT and get 40-50fps average. I don't know why it won't install for you, mine was the disk version though, which I no longer own. The games for windows live integration was annoying, but it still worked. Best 3rd person shooter ever? Well I wouldn't go that far, there are other better ones, but gears of war is pretty good.
I haven't played the witcher before, but I did watch my dad play it on his PC for a little bit, and it looked like an MMORPG but it was single player, so it appeared really boring to me. -
Well, even for the sake of continuing the argument, why does a 3rd person shooter is better with a gamepad?? I am playing right now Mass Effect and find no problems with the keyboard and mouse configuration. It may be the mouse sensitivity the key issue, but I think it can be solved easily.
-
When people refer to this, I think they mean there's just all around more third person shooters on consoles, it's not that they control better, because third person shooters control the same as FPS's except the camera is behind the person. Keyboard and mouse configurations are dominant for third person shooters as well as FPS's, but we don't often get them on PC. There's games like Army of two, RE5, GEARS, fracture, dead rising, Lost planet etc. Can anyone even name ones that aren't a late port of a console game?
-
The keyboard/mouse for 3rd person games take away from the realist feel for me. using the keys to move and the mouse to look around can affect sensitivity and feel. Where as with a dual analog controller, even after you release it there's still some slight movement afterwards, like in real life not many people can stop or turn on a dime.
Also 3rd person games that involve jumping and a lot of close combat, I feel are much better suited for a game controller than keyboard/mouse. If it doesn't require more keys than available on the controller, the reaction time's also a lot quicker. I know I can hit a trigger button much faster than reaching for 1 or 2. It might only be a second or 2 difference, but sometimes that matters. -
thanks for the clear answer mate nice one.
Ive also got the disc version of the game and after an hour of research ive found out that it has to do with windows and there over zealot security messures, as of jan 09 the game doesnt recoginize the date correctly and gives the "cannot run the game with a modified exe" message...im currently sownloading the patch so should be trying it out for my self soon.
I put acouple of hours into the witcher and really enjoy it so far, like the battle system alot...alittle different than most rpg's in that you can string together combos but hitting the attack button at the given time which builds into some impressive combos.....story seems good, alittle cheesy but good, and its more shady than other rpg's ive played where there is a clear distintion between good and evil, the witcher seems alittle more grey in that area....lol...definatly worth a look if you are into rpg's -
that in theory i agree with thats why im really looking forward to this title as ive a windows 360 controller that i havent used once......and this is the first game ive brought that fully supports it.......
For FPS ive always liked the keyboard and mouse but for third person shooters with rumble etc im looking forward to trying out the controller thats for sure. -
As it happens I am playing Mass Effect among other games right now myself and its a good example of what I'm talking about. Can you control it just fine with the standard keyboard/mouse setup? Sure. Plug in a gamepad and you can also control control it just fine. The difference is that it was designed to be played with game pads as most all 3rd person shooters are nowadays normally being ports of a console game. The end result is that in my mind they seem to play more naturally or for lack of a better word seamlessly with a game pad. I think its understood we are all stating opinions here right?
-
try s.t.a.l.k.e.r 1 and 2. both have a open enviroment to roam around and plenty of thing to kill or be killed by. can be a bit buggy and be sure to update thegame before your play it or you loose all your settings and saves
-
You know what we need....a mouse with rumble...Now that would increase pc gaming pleasure by ALOT. Although rumbling would move your aim off lol its still an idea that at least one company should try out.
I think thats why some laptops try and throw a tiny inch in diameter subwoofer in the bottom usually bellow the side of the keyboard on one side...The sound will vibrate the laptop a bit...While you go def -
Guess I'll find out how a FPS performs on the PS3 after I buy a Frag FX for it , compared to the same FPS on a PC ! I still think Mouse/keyboard is superior to a game pad !

Ahhh microsoft........after re-installing gears of war and applying the patch to fix my earlier problem im now getting a runtime error and being told to contact developers lol........which are microsoft......cant find a fix online for it.......this is becoming a nightmare......im about ready to get a refund for this game and go with bioshock instead lol
-
well i finally got gears of war working on my pc....and it does run and play very well, im enjoying it.........i have to say im very disappointed with Microsoft and epic i ended up having to get a third party file to play a game that i brought from Microsoft, which basically removes all windows live data to allow me to play the game........it is by far the most expensive game i have brought and am alittle frustrated by what i had to go through to get it running...anyway be warned...
-
the best new game for me would be fFxIII..
i thought so because fFxII was good and
as well as the other final fantasy games that i've
played.. so i thought that all that square enix
makes are good.. it has not made me disappointed
...for now..?

Played Gears of War on the 360. Aside from being GPU intensive, it was fun. Also, very very bloody.
-
yeap its actually a great game, after sorting out all the bugs, its really fun, fast paced and enjoyible, im using the windows 360 controller and loving the rumble affects etc......the port has gone well and it runs really well on my sxps16, maxing everything and getting really smooth FPS.
Definately worth a look for those in the market for a good third person shooter. -
Yep gears of war is a great game with alot of blood but it had some bugs.
-
I played witcher, it was one of the best RPGs I've played. That should keep you busy!
-
Gears of War is great if you have the xbox 360 controller for the PC. For some reason the game felt awkward with a mouse and keyboard.
I LOVE The Witcher. It's a great RPG that can keep you busy for countless hours. I'm still playing through it, and I got it when the Enhanced Edition came out. -
Let's see here...............and I'm really not trying to rain on your parade but, if your playing a "PC GAME", but using a "360 CONTROLLER", instead of mouse/keyboard..............how can you tell if the game was a good port or not ?
Why not just buy an xbox? -
yeap im really enjoying it but its actually quite difficult im playing it on hard and currently getting my butt kicked in the second chapter...the swamps.....
How many hours gameplay did you get out of it?.
^^ @ rdalev.....well i dont want to buy a console im very happy playing on a pc.....and even if i did want a console i live in rural india where we get limited power so having a notebook certainly helps when the power shuts off........well im guessing that the pc version has more framerate stability and most probably improved graphics over the xbox version.....it plays quite well once you get the installation issues sorted out....hence my comment on it being a decent port...unlike something like GTA4 etc
p/s i dont understand your reference to playing a game on the pc with a controller.....i didnt realise they where exclusive to consoles lol
certain games are fantastic with a controller, others im much happier using a keyborad and mouse......what a great world we live in that i can have the choice of either...... ;-) -
i hated gears of war 2 the dude was on steroids and when i walked it was like being on a boat rocking back and forth
New games, you opinions?
