How good GPU do I need to see .mkv (and other HD movie) file on a notebook? Going to get 12"-13.3" is there any that can handle decoding of that kind?

All you really need is an Intel 4500MHD.

It really depends on the processor to decode it. Probably a 9300GS or better, IMO.

But in reality, it's a lot more processor dependent.

    I would say a C2D 2.2+ Ghz or better.

okej, but cant I get it to encode the movies by the GPU, since this has more power and are better on this kind of operations? So a bad processor and a relative good GPU would do fine? would a HP Pavilion DV2-1110eo do fine in this , or maby Acer Aspire Timeline 1810TZ-413G32n would handle it? But seems to have to bad processor according to you. SO I need to stepp up to a HP PAVILION DV3-2080 C2D to get good playback?

Dell Studio XPS 13 would a good choice... with a P9600 and NVDIA 9500M G SLI.

Yea I guess so, but the XPS is mutch more expensive then the other I mentioned. And with that cpu it would go over mu budget by araound $600 ;)

All you really need is a good processor. It's not really that GPU dependent. So you could have a QX9300 and a 4500MHD, and it would probably run quite well. But really, which notebook maker is going to make a notebook with a processor and GPU that are complete opposites? HP maybe?

A decent processor and a low-end discrete GPU would be preferred, the Intel 4500MHD would be fine as well.

okej sounds like a great advice, but however it seems that 1810Tz will play 1080p with gpu acceleration (according to owners test of it) so doesnt seem so important to have good cpu?
