So I see Nvidia came out with some new GPUs - 100 and 300 series. And ATI came out with a few new 5000 series. It would be much appreciated if someone could give me the lowdown on the comparison between the new ones stacked up against each other as well as against the older models. I hoped to have found this info in the mobile GPU page, but it seems it hasn't been updated in a long time.

All in all Im looking for a GPU that plays modern games decently. Like Modern Warfare 2, soon to come out StarCraft II, Bioshock 2, etc. It doesn't have to be flawlessly smooth but playable at medium settings. If a thread that explains this already exists, sorry for the extra post I couldn't find it in my search. Thanks in advance!

EXACTLY. The GF100 FERMI are too large, consume too much power and too much heat to be in a mobile platform. Nvidia has no choice but to rebrand once more.

If you have been reading other review sites, everything is pointing that Nvidia is having difficulty with power/temperature and size issues for desktop alone. Saw one review site when they had a GF100 demonstration they needed to buy a new motherboard, power source and case to run the GF100. It's getting out of hand.

Nvidia's delay seems to be with manufacturing. Even so, the HD5870 has 800 shader cores already, so should be alright if you get a G73. My guess is the next Alienware will be dual HD5870s, not an Nvidia again.

The current 360 you see in the Asus G51 is a rebranded 215.

Yeah, considering that they use less power than the GTX 280M, I'm wondering why it hasn't happened already. The 285M is not really much faster than the 280M, just higher memory speed and lower core speed. The HD5870 Vantage scores are quite amazing.

While this might not totally be 100% accurate, my general ranking for GPUs are as follows (based on the reported specs, assuming they don't use lower quality parts such as GDDR3 instead of GDDR5):

    Tier 2 (128-bit GDDR3/64-bit GDDR5):
    HD 5830
    HD 4830
    HD 5730
    HD 5650
