    About bloody time Nvidia

Wonder if this is because of preparation for the new GPUs arriving soon?

Wow, that really changes things. The price/performance ratio of a 6990M and a 580M is now almost equal. A 580M is worth it! :O

That indeed might be in preparation for the coming GPUs in some months. That, and the competition that AMD brought with their prices.

I still wouldn't buy the GTX580m vs an HD6990m, but finally the price is reasonable and an easy recommendation specially for the extra features.

Probably preparing to empty their stockpiles before 28nm mobile gpu's flood the market next year, but we consumers always enjoy cheaper pricetags. :D

Are the price cuts hitting resellers yet, or will it be a couple days/weeks before consumers see the cuts? I checked XoticPC a few hours ago and the 580 was still way more expensive than the 6990 on the P150HM.

Edit: Just noticed that the article specifies that the price cut is currently only applicable to Alienware, though it doesn't specify whether that's the result of Clevo not updating their pricing or whether it's an exclusive deal between Nvidia and Alienware or even just stock clearance from Alienware.

It is probably still around $800 to get as a spare card from Dell's Parts Store though...

However I think the ATI Graphics Switching on the m17x-R3 is better than Optimus. Therefore I might still stick with the ATI camp for now...

Probably till CES next year, along with the AM HD7000 in consumer products.
