if you don't like scifi, you don't like scifi... but in the case of Stargate, I thought the movie was pretty lame, and the SG1 series started out that way, but it got really good. Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis were both some of my favorite shows.. and the new Stargate series coming out soon might be good, but too early to know.

The next big mmo may be Star Wars: The old Republic but if you go read the forums there is a massive amount of people who don't know a thing about mmo's who cry and complain and they don't even know what the game is going to be like yet. Bioware is awesome and I hope they can deliver. It won't kill wow but it may bring a whole new audience into gaming. Let's hope it isn't dumbed down to 10 and under mechanics.
Back in the pre-cu days:
My Jedi could roll entire guilds in pvp 1 versus 20-30. It was amazing playing like that. I've been hunted by real players online. Skilled people will talent. That was really exciting and something wow never has been able to replicate. +rep to old SWG. -
-
i like UO cuz it had no levels, and no outrageous/godly items. everything about the game took pure skills. from PvE to PvP to pure crafting builds. u even had to eat food or yur accuracy and stamina would decrease due to fatigue and hunger. the game play was just lovely. u pressed a button and the game would respond. there was no delays or anything of that sort. i could go on and on about why UO is STILL untouchable by any of today's fantasy-based MMO's. -
-
-
Been waiting for it for 4 years since i started L2. Im playing it now, im not regreting it. -
-
Star Wars The Old Republic will most probably be the next big thing, although I doubt anything will kill WoW with a player of like 11 million people, the only way wow is going down is if it commits suicide.
-
I thought AoC was going to overcome wow... Lol How was I wrong..
I got the first lvl 5pvp PoM On the RP=PvP server. Basically my guild cheated a little bit with the game mechanics. Before we did it however, we did consult the GMs to see if it was "ok" They said it was ok, so we did it.
Myself and about 5 other of my guildies got to lvl5 pvp in about 14hrs and bought all the pvp with the gold we worked hard to earn. Lol everyone was pissed, no one knew how we did it. They started putting pictures of us on their forums. If you played AoC on the rp pvp server, you will always remember Gregory.
I messed everyone up using a PoM. People were so retarded, and they got jealous. One day I came to get on and my PoM was naked...FunCom took everything from us, and didnt replace our gold...Even though the stupid GMs said it was ok to do what we were doing. So, I cancelled my account and sold the game to a friend, never to play that crap game again.
Thats just my little experience with the game. lol -
Possibly Entropia, I know its player number is gonna explode once it starts getting rep because its going to be using the CryEngine in June. That will make it the most graphically advanced MMO. Thats sure to draw numbers, as for the people that join, I can guarantee you less than 30% will actually stay motivated and play it. I think.
I play it, if you have questions you can ask me. But people right off the bat have false expectations, its not a scam, its fun, and technically free. But its a harsh world. But the people in it are great, thats what keeps me there. The friendly people and just the enjoyment of having some fun and giving you the most rush out of a MMO, its nice when loots actually have value. -
Entropia may run on the CryEngine platform, but judging from the screenshots what they have done with it is neither visually interesting nor very detailed.
-
Thats where many many patches come to play, and expansion packs lol
And you also have to think, Not everyone has a great computer to run the most graphic enhanced games. Thats why a lot of kids play wow, because they can play it on their parents work computer or w/e. -

Next Island (Neverdie, one of the rich players Worlds.) Its coming along with the CryEngine update. As you can see the graphics aren't really detailed but it looks decent. And considering there is going to be 20+ Planets, its not bad. Right now theres only 1 planet, Calypso, which has 2 continents, Eudoria and Amethera. Amethera alone would take a character about 10+ hours to run across if you didn't get killed. And there is also 2 space places, Camp Neverdie, and Crystal Palace.

And yes, patches will be a must.
You must also remember these screens are taken at probably the highest settings, I bet this games system requirements will be simular or a tad lower than Crysis. So a Geforce 6200+ Will probably be a bare minimum.
Btw. To make it clear, the way to travel is run/walk. Yes running across the continent takes 10+ hours, however. Along the way you get TP(Teleporters) which are like lil platforms in the cities were once you reach them, they are added to your map and you can teleport from 1 city to the next. Theres quite a bit, 20+. I got them all, usually strong characters will form a team and take out newbies and go on a run, sometimes give them freebies or show them things. -
Eye Candy

I can see a lot of people who are just gonna give this game a try to see the graphics. Even if you don't put a penny into the game, you can still run around explore, get owned by monsters, and sweat(free way of getting funds) and eventually buy a gun and fart around. You can also find rocks/fruit while randomly walking, fruit is worth like barely anything. But theres a bunch of kind of rocks, and if you find certain rocks they can actually sell for quite a bit.
Either way, it looks pretty amazing for a MMO.
It still shocks me that people pay more for clothes ingame that I would in real life. Lol. -
Yeah, I must have been seeing the screens from the current engine as those look quite a bit better.
-
Much of what they present on their site makes it look to be more of a PS3 Home/Sims/There -type of game with fantasy RPG elements thrown in rather than a focused WoW/DAoC/EQ/WAR/etc. -type of game though...
-
I like it mainly because, everyones friendly, exploring with the society is fun. Hunting in teams is fun. And when you get a big loot your name is displayed for everyone and you might go in the daily hall of fame depending how much of a loot you scored. If your really lucky you'll make it into the All Time High list.
Mining/Hunting in loot-able pvp is a rush!.
Mainly its just really good from the lively player base. Every Friday people have question games in their apartments, you can go join a bunch have fun maybe win some stuff. Then go out and hunt with them. Its just fun.
Pretty much from my experience in the game, if you just play it to have fun and chill and stay motivated you will go far. But if you expect for it to fill your pockets and become the best player in a week, then you'll quit.
Theres also a oil rig in a PVP area (non-lootable) that pops out 5-15 PED (NPC Value) of oil every 5-20 mins. Its fun to go there late at night and snatch a few oil drums before someone shoots you. Lot of the time the really strong hunters will let you come along. I once made a deal, were I take the oil split it , 70% for them, 30% for me. And they keep watch for other players. It was great.
It gets pretty intense though, right now land grab is going on were land areas are up for grabs. Societys that are the strongest in the game are entered and its like a full out war ongoing for days like 50+ people duking it out trying to claim the land for their society. Rocket launchers, machine guns, you name it, its a warzone. Land areas are crazy, you can generate thousands of dollars with them. Because you get a %/tax of everyones loot that they get from your land area. However to attract people you need to get monster DNA, and then use fruits and dung to keep the spawn going. Thats why mainly Society's own Land areas together.
I dunno, the future will hold strange things. A lot of media attention in the future for sure. Motorhead is getting a planet or something, theres gonna be a zombie planet I think, and a planet with golfing.etc. I dunno its going to be insane.
Sounds good, but might be too overwhelming, and you only download the content of the planets you go to. However I can see it being a issue if you want to go to ever planet your gonna end up with a 25+GB game.
We will see what the future will hold. -
Some people I know are really into Darkfall now they say it's awesome.
I'd personally would love to see a:
Baldur's gate mmorpg
Fallout mmorpg (f2>f3 btw)
Diablo mmorpg -
Darkfall failed. It's overrun mostly by cheaters, because almost everything is server based thus making speedhacks and such very easy to use.
-
im playing it and i love it. not everything is fleshed out, but it is relatively bug free. world is HUGE, and i havent seen much to complain about. -
Huxley should be interesting if it ever comes out.
-
-
A WoW killer.
Wouldn't be surprised if it is the next MMO from Blizzard. -

That's what everyone used to say about EverQuest.

I have been playing Champions Online and am in Beta for STO
-
You know this is thread is over 6 months old, right?
-
I did a 6-month pre-order sub to CO just to get the so-called STO beta access. Well the beta has launched and still no access yet. Lots of p-o'd folk on the STO forums about this. CO is a mediocre mmo at best. But I'm looking forward to STO.
Can you resurrect Elvis from the dead, too? -
I am in the beta with access to the beta forums and play time.
I actually like CO. -

I might consider Champions if it makes it to the 6 month/one year mark with a decent player base and some additional content. Other than that there really isn't much coming up (officially) that seems interesting. I love bioware games but I am sick to death of Star Wars. Same character types, same weapons, same enemies, same music, same everything. Its boring just watching the demo/preview. Star Trek and SG1 seem like it'll be more fanservice than anything. If only they could make an Escape Velocity/Freelancer style MMO (if only bioware was making a Mass Effect MMO instead). I'd kill to play that (and no, EVE doesn't count because I like my MMOs not to suck as much as possible).
-
-
I love EVE. I was in the original beta, and have always had a soft spot in my heart for it. That being said, I won't play it, or any other MMORPG past the free trial. I tend to get addicted to things very easily, and if I ever played EVE seriously, I probably wouldn't even get up to eat.
Great, great game though. -
I play eve. although i get spurts of interest and dedication.
other mmo's haven't really cut it for me. I did play wow once upon a time. but quickely out grew that. -
regardless ill be playing FFXIV in the end
-
Eve has two major issues (ironically they are in my top 10 reasons I loved it). First is how the game is run, IE everyone on one server. Maybe CCP has changed the way the server and nodes handle the load of hundreds of people in one system since I last regularly read their site. The advantage is EVERYONE is in the same universe.
Second is how long it takes to be useful (decent t2 sniper BS, HACs, capitals). Yet it also makes anyone who can do those someone who is dedicated to the game, mainly because all the time invested in it. -
Eve is fun when you are a member of Goonfleet. On day 1 you are useful!
-
The apocrypha (spelling?) expansion was pretty nice. Exploration is good fun and so is WH's.
Define useful. For the corp i am in (ceo of actually) anyone with a hauler is nice for mining ops (takes about a day). a salvager for mission ops (takes about a week). a frig in lowsec for tackling (takes about half a day). and even after 2 months they can be in a cov ops ship probing good stuff down no problem.
cruisers which are good for roams take about 3 weeks or so to fit half decently (if your in a fleet, not solo) and you can be in a BC not long after.
Just because it takes about 6 months of dedicated training to fly a carrier doesn't mean you are not useful. And 0.0 warfare is not the be all and end all. small roams are much more fun.
