Awesome. This will be enough reason for me to revisit this once the update lands. Well, this and the fact that I randomly discovered that I can use my RC transmitter as a flight controller through USB...

maybe my junktop dx505 can handle high 60 now...this is great news and I will buy the gamepass when it releases with the update just to check or recheck this game out and see.....pretty cool seeing a game with this kind of photorealism

I was not unhappy with the performance previously just given the type of game it is, you can deal with a little lower frame rate with something like FS. This is a huge deal though, getting that kind of perf increase is uncommon, great job Asobo. I bet a lot of new people will be able to play it or bump to 4K.

You guys should try to play FSX or P3D. The amount of addons (and money) needed to make those games look halfway decent (though still nowhere near the looks of MSFS) is huge and in the end they will run worse than MSFS.

I'd say it went from suboptimal to good. Doom Eternal (aside from the quite possibly most worthless VRAM usage award of all time Ultra Nightmare textures) is probably the best of this generation.

It's definitely an impressive technical feat. Doom 2016 might even be better, than thing runs on a potato for how good it looks. I'd call that last gen tho..

So did the update arrive? How is it? It's a big download, just want to make sure it's worth it :)

It did arrive - as you note, it's a big download. Clearly worth it - much improved smoothness and frame rate (on my desktop machine).

I would be much more interested in this if it has a casual mode. I'd live to fly some random planes for fun (or questing) but I don't want to spend hours researching what buttons to press and in what order. I also would only play with a m&kb or controller. I have zero interest in a special flight controller just like I would never do a steering wheel setup for my racing games.

You can use the mouse and keyboard; I'm not sure what the experience is like but those options exist.

It will run offline, though graphics are different - depending on where you go and what graphic data are cached, the experience may be less satisfying. There is a forum for MSFS: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/ where you may get more complete answers than I can give.

Tried running it, and it crashes lol
Should go through through addons and see which one is not compatible with this update.

I know the graphics are worse than online but as I move around a lot I don't have a web connection all the time!I have already looked on this site and no solution for the moment! I think the problem comes from the xbox live launcher! I think he could have incorporated an offline mode like the steam launcher, ubisoft!

I've also used an xbox controller outside of casual mode with no problems. I am not a flight sim aficionado by any means and it was relatively easy to take off and land after running through the tutorial a couple times. That said I have not installed the game in a long time I only played it maybe 10-15 hours, maybe I'll revisit at some point in the future.

I guess I was expecting more of something like Forza Horizon 4 but with planes. Not sure they make any game like that. I want hundreds of planes to fly, anything from military to experimental to really classic stuff. Maybe some races and other stuff to keep me coming back and trying to collectable planes. I was disappointed to see the plane list, I basically lost any interest at that point.

I think the previous version of Flight Sim was a little more like that if I recall. Casual mode is definitely still not just an arcade-type game, that's true. They take care to model the planes with so much detail including physics, etc.. there's no way they can crank out planes quickly and there will never be like 50+ of them for $59.99..

It does sound like an interesting avenue they could explore though, but that would just be an entirely different game with planes that take 99% less time to model.

It would be a different game in a different genre; not this game in this genre. Flight sims aren't going to be everyone's groove and there is nothing wrong with that: We all have our preferences.

In that regard I find MSFS almost too dumbed down; if they simplified it further it would just be a child's toy. There are very few flight simulators but a thousand and one games for when we want to turn off our brains. While I fully support the creation of a thousand and two games for when we don't want to have to think I would strenuously object to further watering down one of very few available flight simulators. Every development second spent on arcade modes would be a second lost to the core mission: Flight simulation.

I was under the impression that if you wanted to you could buy entire flight systems and go so far as to use the controls in the cockpit instead of hotkeys and get pretty close to realism. I guess not. :)

I'm definitely more in the camp of, I just want to play with an xb controller and take off and land and see some sights. I don't mind some of the complexity as I used to play a ton of the microprose and sublogic games in the 80s and 90s on PC/C64/Amiga but going full sim is a little more than I'm looking for these days.. I guess I don't mind going maybe 50% of the way there.. :)

You could do all that and I did; I've got multiple HOTAS setups, rudder pedals, yokes, etc. You can go much further than MSFS does; there are some that let you go through the full checklists for startup right down to performing every test, starting up the gyro, checking every fully modeled switch state and all that fun stuff. That's just to to out of the hanger. MS would never make that sim, it's not the core audience they have for this game.

This is sim light and based on the sales numbers a lot of people like sim light. I like it. All good but you turn it into 100 poorly modeled aircraft, achievements for collecting them, races, skins, loot boxes with upgrades, all that jazz, it's not a sim any more, not hardcore, not softcore, not at all. It's an arcade game. I'd totally play the game describes above; I just don't that game to happen to this game.
