I'm trying to play Dirt 2 with the sound being played through the Amp, and the video through the TV.

Problem is that when I use the TV for the video, either the Windows Audio or Rapture3D software is preventing multi-channel audio.
I have tested it using the laptop display, and passing the audio to the amping, which works with 7.1 audio. I have also tried duplicating the displays, but that only results in stereo being passed to the amp.

I've also tried some older graphics + HDMI audio drivers, and different audio drivers for my soundcard (just in case it was a problem with that), but nothing.

It seems very strange that it can only pass multichannel when the laptop's display is being used to display the game.

Anybody got a fix for this?

It may have something to do with the HDCP handshake. What type of TV is it?

    Thanks for the reply.

The laptop is connected directly to the amp (an Onkyo TX-SR507), and then onto the TV. I would assume the HDCP handshake was between the laptop and the TV, but I could be wrong.
    The TV is an 32LG5700.

Oh, well, is it directly connected through toslink? The reason I said it maybe the HDCP handshake is that sometimes when a game or a blu-ray are launched, the software will check and see what resolutions the HDMI is capable of, and what type of audio that connection supports, then it defaults to the HDMI capabilities. Does your AMP have HDMI pass-through? Maybe I'm reading that wrong.. I can't picture how everything is connected..

Hmmm, I think I was a bit unclear xD

Laptop is connected to Amp via HDMI.
Amp is connected to TV via HDMI out.

Like I said in the OP, the weird thing is the fact that it works if I display it on the laptop's screen, with the sound being passed to the amp (using the laptop as primary monitor, and Nvidia HDMI audio out for the audio).

I also don't think it's a handshake problem, as anything else with multi-channel (DTS, DD, and even Windows Sounds) play fine.

Wow, that's odd. Honestly IDK, that's an odd predicament. The only thing I can think of is that the reciever ONLY touches the audio and relays an HDCP request from the TV right through the reciever and it's just not identifying correctly. On the TV is there an option in the on-screen menus to enable Dolby Digital or anything? That's all I got  .

That's exactly how it should be connected; your amp is your A/V controller. Therefore, I'm inclined to believer your assumption about internal switching is correct.

Do you have an audio input/output selection switch? All amps have this, and sometimes other sound devices as well.

Have you tried separate AV cables yet? Or is HDMI the only way for you to output multi-channel?

    It really is odd xD
I think it might be something to do with the Rapture3D software, rather than my hardware setup. Like I said, I can get multichannel working on everything else but Rapture3D.

Yep, I have an AV switch, which I use to switch to the laptop's video and audio. When I load up the game, it turns off for second (which is normal), then display 'Game Logic II', meaning it is defaulting back to Dolby Pro Logic II, rather than using Multichannel. If the multichannel audio was available, it would default to that, or at least show that it was available for use.

I have COAX SPDIF, but I don't have a cable right now.

I'm gonna speak to BlueRipple (creators of the Rapture3D software), as I think it's mainly down to how the software works.

edit: Just tried E-Mailing BlueRipple support, and the E-Mail was 'rejected by the recipient domain'.

Then that would be a pretty good assumption. And given your explanation, mine as well.

As an A/V maven, I have made it my philosophy to always keep a variety of cables that fit ALL my connection just for situations like this. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to sit down to enjoy my media in full 5.1 surround just to realize I don't have all the right cables, or for one whatever reason, one doesn't work. No...wait! I don't have to tell you!! Anyway, I always like to be prepared.

Please let us know, when you get a resolution.

    Thanks Krane.
I'll grab a Coax cable this week, and post back when with the results :)
