I've tried Battlefield 1942, 2, and 2142 and all of these crash back to the desktop before the intro movies even play. I get no error description for battlefield 1942 or 2 but 2142 tells me the "bf2142.exe has stopped working".

Battlefield 1942 and 2 were demos and 2142 was the full retail boxed game and tried patches 1.25 and 1.4. Nothing works!! I've tried running as admin and trying all the compatibility modes.

Have any of you had any luck with these games and Vista 32????

I've got all the updates and I'm using 169.04 drivers. What version are you using?

Is PunkBuster enabled? There are numerous reported problem with latest punkbuster updates and Vista for BF players. A new Punkbuster version is supposed to remedy this problem soon.

Try it in XP SP2 compatibility mode, and as Administrator, by right clicking the desktop icon and selecting the compatibility mode tab. Oops, never mind, you've already been there.... Check your refresh rate also, I've heard that if it's not set to 60, it will crash to desktop. I've run both games with an Asus G1, and both Toshiba's listed below, all on Vista, no problems.

Just an update after doing some research. Apparently, all the battlefield games require a refresh rate of 60hz and my vostro screen is only 59hz so this is preventing the game from starting.

Anyone having the same issue as me with a 59 hz monitor on their laptop?

I have been playing Battlefield 2 on my Vostro 1500 - in XP though without issue.

Can you turn on or off vsync that will possibly help fix this?

Your refresh rate is probably 60Hz which is the minimum for this game to run, which is really dumb.

I gave up and just did the secondary monitor trick to set the refresh rate, load the game and then disconnect the secondary monitor. Works fine after that.

This is a main reason i didn't go with a 17" from dell...(wen't with a 15" afterall, anyways). Supposedly if you have a 59Hz in a 17" model it is a defect. You should be able to get it replaced. Link to dell forum Good Luck!

Bf1942 crashes for me after a map change. Sometimes it hangs when loading the game. I have a dell 1520 vista32 all drivers up to date. Im almost ready to put XP on here to see if that fixes it. BF is the only game I play. When it crashes I ctrl alt del kill the process and reload. Any Ideas.
