are you monitoring your temps? Also did you do a clean install when you changed drivers?

What he said. If it's not the driver it's temps. When was the last time you opened your notebook and blew out all the dust from the fans, boards etc...? Might be a good idea... in fact might be a good idea for me too!

I just blew out the fans on my work laptop, I think for the first time ever, and it was like a dust storm.

No. If you opened it, swapped the CPU that would probably void your warranty. Opening your case and cleaning it out should not. What brand laptop do you have? Where did you buy it?

    A few questions:
+ Does it happens only with prototype or with every game you play?
+ Does it shuts down always doing the same thing (i.e. like always that you save, or always that you have a big battle?, etc.)
+ Does Prototype seems to run fine on the laptop? (i.e. sudden very noticeable slowdowns, etc.)

Basically it would be good if you can narrow down the description of the issue, which may bring a clearer answer for your problem.

    I hope this helps.

its overheating.... I am 99% confident its that.

since the OP does not monitor temps and clean out his vents/fans... that would be the result.... overheating and reaching threshold temps... forcing the system to shutdown to save itself from further heating damage.

Buy Airduster, it's a can filled with compressed air, you should be able to get it in most computer shops, DIY shops and other specialized stores. Blow through all vents and every single small opening on your laptop. If you have never cleaned your laptop before, i recommend you do it outside or near window, you will be horrified how much dust will come out. Shut down laptop and remove battery before doing this. The air is very cold and if you spray it onto warm laptop, there's a chance that small amount of humidity will appear. After you properly cleaned the laptop, let it stand for 10-20 minutes, just to be 100% sure that any possible humidity is gone.

You should see a big difference in temperatures and noise your computer makes (if it's the dust that makes it overheat).
