If I bought a sound card for my m9700 would I notice a performance increase from the reduced strain on the cpu considering I'm gpu bound. I'm not doing this for sound quality, just for performance.
I have:
Alienware m9700
Turion 64 2.4Ghz
2x7900GS 512mb
2gig DDR Ram
I was thinking of this sound card if it's a good one that will help:

Doubtful. There's not much that'll increase CPU performance by a noticeable degree aside from killing all unnecessary services. You can try and disable your onboard sound and see if the performance increases when you do so. You also mean you're CPU bound if your CPU is holding you back from performing better. You're bound by whatever is throttling your performance.

I know I'm cpu bound. Even oc'ing the gpu's make no difference in games. Changing graphics settings don't really change the fps at all. Turning the aa from none to 2aa-4aa makes only like 2fps difference. This is from games like F.E.A.R. at 1920x1200 and all max settings. If I am severly cpu bound will using a sound card make any difference?
I'll test it on F.E.A.R. and css. -
I can't seem to remember how to disable sound for the entire computer... Could you tell me where it is again. lol.

What is your 3dmark scores?
You should be getting around 9000 in 3dmark 05.
Try... reformatting? Like I did to get rid of the junk and then readd only the essentials... They add too much stuff even when they say they don't.
Look in this topic of my m5750 pics to see how good i'm doing after I reformated...

Look at first pics, then scroll down for the better pics, and the framerate I'm getting =-O -
I had problems when I got it and it's been reformatted nearly 50 times. When I got it there was no bloat ware. I am getting 10.5k on 3dmark 05.

Will running a program like skype in the background effect performance much?
-
Then whats the problem? A sound card will add like 5 fps and cost $200.
Um, yes? Programs like skype constantly send info... I'd get rid of it, or sdisable it unless you need to use it. -
I use skype for my online chat during games. I use it instead of TS or vintrillo.
