Not sure if i'm posting this in the right place, but i apologize if i'm not. Me and my buddy are both getting gaming pcs and i'd like to know which you guys thought was a better deal. Also overall which is a better gaming laptop. The laptop i got was a Sager 8662 factory except for another 2 gigs of ram and windows 64 off of xoticpc.com for $1500. Though it is 15.3 i prefer a square screen. He however got a gateway system i'm not very familiar with. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?EdpNo=4187624&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs
    this is the model

just interested in what you guys thought! thanks.

the GTX 260m is just a renamed 9800m GTS, so everything in specs is pretty much the same, except that the Gateway has a 1900x1200 res.

The Sager with the brand spankin' new GTX260m has better specs, and Sager is known for better build quality. The gateway has a higher resolution and bigger screen, but if my budget allowed a $1500 system, I wouldn't blink before ordering that Sager.

They're both similar in performance, probably won't be much of a difference between either. I'd personally choose the Sager because I like smaller notebooks, and it's 15.4" vs 17" which is quite a bit.

May you post a comparison in specs between the two cards? I do not think the GTX 260M is equivalent to the 9800M GTS.

    Yeah, I think the GT160m is like a 9800m GTS. The GTX260m is more like a 9800GT-GTX

    GTX260m specs.

    112 unified shaders @ 1375Mhz
    1GB 950Mhz memory

    9800mGTS specs.

    64 unified shaders @ 1500Mhz
    512MB 800Mhz memory

Well those are the hard specs for the two, decide for yourself. It certainly won't equate to twice the performance, but it might be a good 30% faster in shader intensive games. A good example of the performance difference might be to look at benchmarks comparing the 8800GT vs the 9600GT DESKTOP cards. Where as the 8800GT would be representing the GTX260m.

9800M GTS has a 256 bit bus so it can only use 512MB of graphics ram.

The GTX260M in your notebook crushes the 9800M GTS in your friend's. The GTX260M is basically a higher clocked 9800M GTX on a smaller die.
