Are there any notebooks with an 8600M GT with 512mb of GDDR3? I can only find the IFL90 which has GDDR2.
-
I thought that 90 had DDR2 and that there were no 8600m GTs that had 512 GDDR3.
-
the sager np2090 has a 512 8600gt with gddr3
-
-
No, it's DDR2, I'm pretty sure.
-
I know in the Sager forums flippoet has rivatuner showing teh sager with 512 gddr3, but rivatuner has been argued. So it hasn't been a 100% confirmed in either direction.

GDDR3 only shows performance in benchmarks but in real gaming scenarios it doesn't show much of a boost, am i right on this?
Because that is what I have been hearing from other threads. -

I wouldnt worry about it im sure the performance is very similar between the two.
The Asus C90 comes with the 512mb card. I hear its DDR3, and DDR2 lol same deal nobody said for sure what it is. I guess I will know next week when I get mine. -

would this bottleneck be a big problem?I want my first good high-end laptop to be reliable and last a long time.
-
the 8600M GT is pretty much on par with the 7900GS... which is considered to be the low of the high-end
So you can play all current games on high/max settings and the upcoming games on mid-high easily. -
I believe the Zepto 6224 and 6625 have 512 MB DDR3.

I'm just wondering but With a 8700m GT at 512 GDDR3 what FPS do you think I'd get at widescreen 1600 or 1200?
-
What FPS in what? That's way too wide of a question. and 1600x1200 isn't a wise screen resolution, unless you meant 1680x1050 or 1280x800, in which case you most likely always get higher frame rates on the lower resolutions.
Try and be more specific on what you are looking at FPS in. -
I've noticed many websites advertise GDDR3 when they have it, but don't say GDDR2 when they have that. But it's no big difference? There are way too many notebooks out there I'm hopping between then.
-
Also the screen is a 17" WSXGA+ X-Glass TFT Screen (1680 x 1050) is that a bad res for gaming? Would changing the res resulting in any negative feedback? -
Well, everything runs better at lower resolutions, but specifically 128-bit cards, like the 8600M GT.
-
So 1280x800 may be a better option, but what negative feedback if any will I get for not using the native res?
-
Playing a game at 1280x800 on a 1680x1050 screen will only look a little worse than 1280x800 on 1280x800. Ever watched a non-HD show on an HDTV? It's like that, but not as bad. I personally don't think the extra money for the 1680x1050 is worth it if you won't play games at it.
-
on the other hand, 1680x1050 comes in pretty handy when coding and using excel and browsing at the same time.
I doubt people will buy a notebook solely to game on it. -
-
1440x900 is the best resolution for a 15.4" screen. If you don't do a lot of photo/video editing, using spreadsheets or tasks that have many windows etc....then there is absolutely no point of having that high of a res on your 15.4" notebook. It's way tooooo big.
-
I personally went with 1280x800 for my 15.4" for two reasons. One my desktop has a 22" monitor that I use 1680x1050 on, and I don't want to use that one a smaller monitor. That and smaller resolutions will work better for most graphic intensive things, like games. So for me the 256/512 isn't even a little bit of an issue.
-
, comes with the Rock 770 (17") I'm just hoping the 8700m GT 512 can handle games at that resolution.
-
Now, I'm a bit confuse by the title of this thread.
I thought that only the Asus G1S had GDDR3. Isn't it?
After all other laptops have a 8600M GT w/ GDDR2: the zeptos ( 6x25WD and 6x24WD series), the Compal IFL90 and the Sager NP2090. And I've forgotten the "nicest", the Gemstone of acer! Right?
And by the way, it seems that the versions of the Compal or Sager with the highest resolution (1680x1050) have a 9cell battery that will stick out of the back of the chassis... -
I heard in another thread that the C90S has a 512 GDDR3 so that'll make people happy
.
-
Ho no,
I was really turned away by the gamerz look of the Asus G1S or by the sticking out batteries (Compal, Sager) aforementionned but here...
I give a special mention for the Asus C90S for its 4 gigantic external fans...Is it still called a laptop? Air dryer seems to be more appropriate!
Edit: Nicer pictures of the turbines on this site
Edit2: Last smart ass comment: Anyone knows if this has GDDR3? -
Herv look up one post
, I heard Ken from GenTch I think it is said so.
