Hi.
Im a fan of pc gaming, and Im actually playing on a low end dell laptop I bought almost two years ago, with a intel 82852 video card. Im just a fan of flight sims and Brothers in arms series (maybe some other games like Full spectrum warrior, or swat...).
My budjet is 1300€ or so. Ive just found a laptop in a shop called Media Markt, for 1099€ (Packard bell v7900, core duo 1,83 - 2x512RAM - x1600 512 hypermemory), but i dunno if i should wait for january or so, when new technology comes and new video cards arrive. do u think i should wait till then, or i should buy this lappy?? Im just waiting for nvidia 7700 to arrive, but ive seen that its just a little better than the x1600, so I could overclock it and get a 7700, wouldnt I?
By the way, the x1600 has 128 mb, and up to 512 shared. is that better than the just dedicated 256mb version?
Thanks

No, the more dedicated memory will always be better, I played the unready and buggy Flight Simulator Demo on medium-high settings and it ran well. FS2004 ran nearly maxed out with 30+ fps.
I have the 256mb dedicated version of the card. -
The 256MB dedicated version is better. The more shard memory a card has the worse. The shared memory is too slow to be used efficiently and it grabs from your system memory, which hurts performance as well.

ok thanks
.... but... what is the laptop u know that is the cheapest with a x1600 256mb dedicated, and at least a 1,83 core duo? (15,4" or less)
Thanks -
if you need the laptop then get it right now
if you don't need it then wait
new technology and better stuff will always come out "in a few months" then you'd just be waiting your entire life (ie, santa rosa, 7700, x1650, kentfield, 4x4, etc...)
rumor is that the 7700 is a lot better then the x1600, and the x1650 isn't much better then the x1600
if you want a powerful gpu, mobility and don't mind waiting, the 7700 would be your best bet
if you need your laptop right now and need mobility, the x1600 is still a very powerful card
if all you care about is power, and don't care about mobility, you really should consider a desktop since a 7700go is still no where near as good as a desktop version of the same card or 7600gt. laptop cards are toned down due to battery and heat limitiations. also, a desktop is much more powerful then a laptop dollar per dollar -
