    Hi there,

    Got a Vostro 1500 with a 8600m GT.
    Current Driver says:6.14.11.128
so i downloaded nvideas latest 163.74 driver, tried to install it but a message comes up saying that i have not a device for this driver to be updated.

Heard rumors that you can not use nvideas driver to update and enhance your dell video card. Theres got to be a way...

    Cheers
    Chris

go to laptopvideo2go.com then community forums then release 160.xx drivers, select lastest oe (169.13) and follow the instructions.

Basicaly, nvidia isn't authorised to release mobile drivers so the mobile video card aren't included in the driver's device name list. There is a modified file you must download there

i guess you dled it from the nvidia's own website
if it is then of course it would say no driver found since they don;t support most of mobile chips
    try dling from laptopvideos2go
    ill give you the link

no success.. downloaded the driver(#.exe) to desktop double click and once its finished, instead of getting a new folder with the same driver number, i get my desktop screen filled with extracted stuff, tried different drivers(163.75, 169.02,...) always the same! what am i doing wrong?

You have to create a seperate folder (Nvidia 193.13 for example). Before you click "OK", locate the folder's path and it will dump the files there.

Also, make sure you add the modified INF file into that folder afterwords. Otherwise you're going to get another "Incompatible device" message.

wait before i log out again,
    follow the steps
1.download the driver you want like 169.13
2.download the inf or something like that next to it
    3. move the inf file into the file with the driver extracted
4 when it is done, go to device manager
    5. click on the video adapter or something like that, and say update
    6. try to find where it says ill find driver manually and load it manually.
7 say that the you have gotten to that place: locate to the folder and click on the inf file that you just have replace and it is done
note:this is mostly based on vista but it is almost identical: make sure you followed a guide of this link and replace the original inf with the downloaded one: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33

Seriously i am doing exactly what is being asked: 1. download driver no problem
    2. double click and extract to desktop...but instead as pictured as on the guide i dont get one other folder. i get my desktop screen filled with stuff!!!

    hmm that is wierd
because i am scoring only 3400 with the recent driver
which means even your stock driver beats my score
    :p

No wonder. I just visited the link and they made a big mistake using 7-zip rather than Winzip or M$ unzipper. It automatically creates a folder for you rather than scattering files everywhere.

They should have said to create a folder and unzip the files in there. *Noobs*

Anyways, I'm glad you got it working. Nice score btw. :)

stock driver was "old" dell driver from back June 07!
I am quit happy with the score and game run all smoothly...but i am human so i want to push it bit with Ntune. Did just a little bit of tuning(500\450) and get 4066. But my question is how hot can the card become and still being concidered safe? normal temp: 52C, with tune up i have got 55C (still safe?)
    Cheers
