I have an M1530 with an Nvidia 8600M GT and my current drivers are 176.44. Has anyone tried the new 185.85 drivers released on May 7, 2009? Are they stable (do they make the computer, especially since I have an M1530, overheat)? Otherwise, what is a good driver I should upgrade to? I hear things about the 179.xx series.

    Thanks!

Most people have found Dox 185.85 to be good. It may increase temps but that should be quite small and the increase in performance game-wise should make up for it.

Well my laptop does get pretty hot with the 176.44 drivers, around 80 Celsius, and to the point for the past few days where I guess the computer just slows everything down because the components are too hot. This makes games stutter (go from constant 100 fps to 15 fps for 10 seconds, then back to 100 fps...cycle repeats). That's why I want to clarify before upgrading.

Also, when you say Dox 185.85, what do you mean? I was thinking about just going to Nvidia.com and downloading the drivers from there, lol. Is Dox like the Omegadrivers-equivalent of ATi Radeon's (My desktop has an X300 on which I use omega)?

Nvidia.com won't give you drivers, they will just redirect you to get drivers from your manufacturer which are often horrendously outdated.

The drivers at laptopvideo2go are modified versions of Nvidia's released desktop ones which are now compatible with laptops. Dox drivers modify stock drivers in order to get the most performance out of them.

Dox 185.85 has widely been concerned as one of the fastest drivers out there. You may or may not see increased temps after upgrading to those.

Ok thanks. I will download and install the 185.85 Dox drivers tomorrow after my new external drive comes in so I can backup. If something does go wrong, can you mention any other driver that I can fall back on - or 176.44 should suffice?

Well...since its working right now it should be fine but I guess you can try stock 185.85 too if Dox doesn't work too well

2 Best forceware driver update recently are:
a.) DOX 185.85(no WHQL which mean you can't play Blu-ray disc with it)
b.) Nvidia Official 186.03 (WHQL certified)

If you have problems having DOX 185.85 such as gaming errors, fps dropping, GPU temperature too high or whatever that can cause inconvenient, you can just uninstall DOX and get the official driver.
DOX = better performance(not all machines can perform with it)
Nvidia = Lower performance but stable/harmless with WHQL(basically, all machines can live with it)

as its not mentioned anywhere what operating system are you running?
if its xp it looks like updates for xp have slowed down if not stopped.
if you are running vista then there are even newer drivers out 186.03 which i think are the best so far.
dox drivers are not official nvidia drivers and have been altered to boost certain aspects.

look HERE for Nvidia official drivers.

also if you havnt updated drivers before you will need to do it in safe mode and also download a program called driver cleaner pro which cleans every last fragment out otherwise you could have complications.

if you need a step by step guide just ask.

lastly have you cleaned your fans out lately as this has a lot to do with causing heat and its recommended to do it every 3-6 months.
