To all who have tried these drivers, which ones work better for you? (gives smoother and greater fps and less stutter overall)
-
-
I already tested a lot of drivers including 195.62, still 186.82 is the best (smoothest) for my old 8600M GT.
-
the stablest for me is 186.81
i heard that 195.62 breaks bd-rom compatibilty or something. haven heard anything about the 186.82 though -
195.62 kills of my brightness and contrast buttons, 186.82 doesn't and I like
. However OP did mentioned its the 191.07 vs 186.82 though...haven't tried 191.07s
-
Apparently the 191 drivers were quite buggy; the desktop ones were anyway.
-
I didn't test the Forceware 191.07 but I did test a few Forcewares 195.XX.
Some of them give me very poor performance and some bugs like brightness control.
Some of them give me "OK" performance but still with brightness control bug.
Forceware 186.82 gives me best performance and got no bugs.
It's even better than Dox's Forceware 185.85 slightly. -
Another vote for 186.82's... they downclock properly, and run great with games. Also, I can vouch that they work fine with BluRay playback.
-
Alright seems like I should give the 186.82 a try. I am liking the 191.07 pretty well enough but I may be pleasantly surprised.
-
I recommend the official 186.81 drivers... 195.62 caused higher temps... and tons of other problems...
-
Alright I just tested the 186.82 drivers and I confirm that I get better performance with the 191.07. I tried every other driver after 191.07 and they gave me lower performance too. It seems these drivers give me the smoothest gaming (especially with fallout 3, the game I am playing the most right now) and lower the stuttering that can happen in game.
-
vote for 186.82
-
Neither, I vote 197.25. These run better for me than 186.81, 186.82 and anything else that I have tried so far.
-
um guys may i know where i can get the 186.82 driver? and is it unofficial driver?
-
It is an unofficial driver Devis87.
Another vote for 186.82 here, best driver so far when it comes to performance. Properly downclocks on idle too -
Naw, has been official driver for a while. Available off Nvidia's website if you search for it.
-
Histidine, I think you're talking about 186.81. Yes, that is the official driver from Nvidia.
I doubt you can find 186.82 on Nvidia's site. -
186.82

However, I highly recommend the 197.45 here:

They started as desktop drivers, but were repacked and include a mobile .inf. Didn't blast up FPS, but trust me, on a rig that can handle bumping up the settings in games, they have a certain WOW factor- more vibrant and detailed apperance IMHO. They and are stable and cool too. At least for me, on Borderlands and Dragon Age, it was like playing a whole new game on a brand new system. HDX Dragon w/8800GTS by the way. -
Drivers aren't universally good for all sytems and all games. Some systems work better with certain drivers and the same with games.
Best bet is to find a driver that performs well with the current system and games you are playing. For example I stick with the 18x.xx series because most of the time I use an external monitor/HDTV. The 19x.xx series drivers cause an issue when the res. is resized to fit the monitor (HDTV) these drivers create a custom resolution that either stretches the image, forces the image to run off the screen, or doesn't allow me to access the custom resolution in-game. With the 18x.xx series these issues dont exist for me.
Unless the driver states certain fixes for a problem you are having, or adds support for any number of issues, then most drivers will perform about the same all other things being equal. -
For example, a while ago I went from like 165.40 to 165.42 (not the actual numbers) and the only listed difference between the drivers was they made some improvement in SLI compatibility (a feature I can't even use), but I gained like 6 fps in Crysis which was enough to make it a lot smoother. -
i'm actually been using 195.62 drivers.. they run quite good but quite a lot of BSOD's.. at least 2-3 times a month.. if it BSOD's one more time , i'm trying 197.16...
Nvidia 191.07 or 186.82 drivers running better for you?
