Has ATI revealed what they plan to counter the 780m with? I decided to hold off on my Alienware laptop purchase.

The (leaked?) AMD roadmap I've seen indicates that Q1 2013 will not be bringing their new high-end mobile parts, so expect to wait until at least April for 89xxm availability.

Their nomenclature for the 8xxx series is pushing the numbers up, so that the equivalent of a 7690m will be more like an 8790m, while 8870m would be more like a replacement for a 7770m. That would seem to leave little room at the top unless they squeeze equivalents for the 78xx and 79xx into a single 89xx classification. My guess: since they're approaching the end of a four-digit naming system, they may well introduce a new nomenclature with the new high-end parts, so the equivalent of a 7970m might not be the 8970m or the 8990m but something entirely different. Either way, unless they go into five-digit names, they'll be changing the system soon.

Then how will I know when they finally release the flagship? :D
I'd be so pissed if I upgrade to an 8*** and they released something on top of it lol. I guess you never know. They did it last year with the 6990m.

Nvidia/AMD might to be doing rebadging for their 2013 schedule, the flagship of HD8000M or 700M probably won't make much differences if you already held a HD7970M or GTX680M. Well that's if they are going for rebadging.

I figured they would probably rebadge the 7970m, but also release something above it with a 20% improvement or so. Not expecting it to be massive, but If either Nvidia or AMD release a flagship that provides a decent performance increase I'll sell my 7970m and drop the 5 or 600 bucks to upgrade. If they don't, I'll probably just build a desktop lol. I'm anxious to see what they come up with though.
