    Hello,

I recently updated my driver for my Geforce 8400M Gs. Since doing this I have no longer been able to use my TV-out S-video to VGA cable (Yellow,Red,White). It seems to detect the televisions as HDTV but nothing appears. I only see the image for a split second usually when switching through display options. I have tried it on 2 televisions so far; one being an older TV and one being a new Sony LCD with no difference in the results.

I used to have no problems and so far the only solution I have been able to come up with is to roll back the driver all the way to the original 2007 version. However this now causes me other compatibility issues so I would like to keep the driver more up to date. I have tried reinstalling a 2008 update from dell and reintsalling the jan 09 update from Nvidia but neither versions made it work.

I had read one solution which said to rollback , copy the nvvits.ddl and nvvitsr.dll from the 2007 version, then update the driver then copy the dll files back into the system32 folder. This did not work.

The other solution I had seen, and would rather avoid, is to use a small piece of wire to connect the 2 of ports in the svideo port.

Also i have tried using the rigorous detection option from from the Nvidia control panel but this has also failed and the option to force the connection stays grayed out and even when it does get check off it doesn't work or even stay checked off once i restart.

At this point I am completely out of ideas.

    Help Me Please!

Are both the resolution and refresh rate on your laptop compatable with the TVs you are hooking up to? The fact that you say the picture shows up for a split second makes me think timing or res may be off. Also, S-vid is video only, no audio, so I'm not quite sure what kind of cable you'd have that would be putting out the correct signal for a w/r/y cable (as that's usually designed with composite with l/r audio in mind, even though the cables can carry either that or composite video). Are you hooked in to composite inputs on the TV? Could be a color space issue then, but given you said the image shows up at all (and you didn't mention any color issues), I'm less prone to guess that.

First, thanks very much for the reply I really appreciate you trying to help.

To answer your question my cable is an S-video to the yellow and a.35mm jack to red and white which i plug into the headphone jack.

The thing that confuses me is that the whole system always worked and still does when I roll back the driver.

Is it possible that the update made the card detect the tv's as HDTV regardless and would have raised the refresh rate accordingly?

I'm going to go try to update again and maybe lower the refresh rate and see if that will fix it.

Alright so i dropped down the refresh rate to 30 and then to 29 and it still didn't
    work. :(

Also when i said that it flickers its only for a spilt second and usually only when i'm changing settings

I am having the exact same issues with my Vostro 1500. I recently reinstalled my laptop and since then (new driver) I cannot get any image on the tv either. When switching settings, it flickers and sometimes displays the screen for a second, but then it goes black again.
