Ok, I was wondering what is the extent of what a 8400m card can play. The cpu and ram are not a worry because I know there will be plenty for that, but what will the card play. Would it be able to play crysis or cod4 at all. Would it be able to play like madden 08 or nhl o8. What about nfs pro street. Tell me what the highest game it can play, thanks.

What version, G, GS, or GT?
-
I have the 8400M GS and I can play COD4 on default settings. I haven't really played with the settings yet but it hasn't lagged or crash on me with 1GB of ram with a T5470.

The GS is the lower ranged version. The G, I believe, only has 64MB of dedicated memory, meaning it's not really made for gaming. I have a GT and run Call of Duty 4 all extra high, 1024x768, with a SOLID 40+FPS. (Aside from crazy grenades and such, which makes it drop around 30-35)

8400m gs
cod4 1280x800 medium settings 35+ fps
crysis 800x600 lowest settings 25+ fps -

Hmm... it won't be bad... but won't be really great, although I don't know much about the G. I know that dedicated memory doesn't mean EVERYTHING, and I don't know the core/memory clocks.
*EDIT* Here's some info.
Geforce 8400M G - Geforce 8400M GS - Geforce 8400M GT
Stream Processors 8 16 16
Core Clock (MHz) 400 400 450

Sorry it's kinda hard to understand. Here's the link! -

Maybe some COD 4, lower settings.

Ok, thats seems fair, I want my laptop to be able to play games but It doesnt have to play like top level games at highest setting because I have a desktop that will play all games out today with no glitch at all. I just want to be able to play some good games while im waiting between classes or something, just to keep me occupied.
-
Should do the trick then!
-
And another thing, I will be going into computer science, and I have been developing a game with my friend and I am doing the 3D rendering with him, and will probably do some more in college. Do you think that this card, 8600m G, will be able to handle 3D rendering, like Rhino 3D, AutoCAD, and TurboCAD, if anyone has heard of those. Like I said its not a huge issue if not because my desktop would work fine for this.
-
For that, I would definitely go with the Nvidia Quadro series. You'll be glad.
-
Even if its rare, simple renderings, I'm talking like simple objects, and stuff like the, not even animating them. The reason I want to go with the 8400 is because it will save me alittle more money in a place where I want something more, but I really dont need that much, haha.

I have a question for all of you..
i just got an hp dv6700t with:
core 2 duo 2.0ghz
1 gig of ram
8400m GS
However, when i play cod4, it freezes or lags a LOT even with minimal settings. I've gotten latest drivers and all that bs. I even tried contacting HP with no avail. Is there soemthing i should try to fix it up to match ya'lls results? It's getting very irritating for me.
If nothing i might have to send this piece of **** back to HP. for "repair" or a replacement hopefully (if they'll help me out ne ways.) Thanks a lot for your help in advance. -
Check your GPU settings. Make sure HP didn't underclock you GPU. Try downloading the CoD4 patch, that should help a lot. Have you tried running Fraps to check your framerate? Maybe it's a framerate drop, and not a stutter. If so, it's probably do to Powermizer or Underclocking. Make sure you are set to "High Performance" mode, and that your clocks are normal.
Hope this helps! -

To summarize:
-
COD4 - everything at max (res: 1280x800) with no AA.......around 20 - 25 frame/sec
Crysis - res: 800x600....mid low....around 20 -25 frame
Im having nVIDIA 8400M GS 128MB GDDR3 -
i'm getting my 4gigs of ram today so we'll see how that fares.. if u have any other suggestions i'm more than welcome to try them out to fix thsi piece of ****.
if all else fails.. i'm returning this to hp in hopes they either fix it or give me a brand new one. those bastards.
