Hey folks! Recently I've been having problems with my inspiron 1520. I've been recieving the "Driver nvlddmkm has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" warning quite a bit lately and I'm running out of ideas to fix this thing.

    Nvidia Driver: 7.15.11.7431
    - Can't find any new ones, this is from December 22.
I have also updated my windows vista in hopes to fix the problem but without any luck.

Is this a serious issue? Is there ever going to be a driver to fix this problem? I really only play Guild Wars and it is happening non stop! It's so frustrating!

I have looked at the Nvidia forum and this one, with people suffering from the same problem. I can't seem to find any recent posts about this, however.

Any help would be appreciated guys. This didn't happen before so I don't even know what to think.

Change drivers to a more stable one. Read the forums over at lv2g and find one that's more stable.

That driver is known to cause the Nvlddk.sys BSOD. This happened to me aswell. A change of drivers will fix it. Try 174.74

I've been using 174.16 and not only does it run very cool, it overclocks very well.

I would recommend you use some driver-management program.
Driver Genius has saved me a lot of headaches.Just be sure to use its download function when its nighttime in china or the download speed will be dreadful,as that's where most of the servers are :)

You've got to get a modded .inf file from laptopvideo2go, it will allow you to install the drivers to a mobile GPU.

Yep, the modded .inf will allow you to install those drivers, simply overwrite the original inf that extracts from the driver package.

Download that same version from www.laptopvideo2go.com forums...
and download the "modded inf" alongside,
extract the files from the 17474_vista.exe
and move the "modded inf" to the folder that the exe creates.
    proceed to install :)

Alright, I just installed the 174.74 driver but my game occasionally locks up still. It hasn't given me the "nvl... has errored and recovered" mumdo jumbo though. It is however still freezing.

Take note though that this did not happen when I first purchased the laptop. What I mean is it did not freeze on older drivers.

    Any advice?

Try a different driver from laptopvideo2go. I cannot use any of the 174 series that are higher than 174.20 as they cause my laptop to "freeze" during games. I'm affraid it would appear to be trial and error when it comes to nVidia drivers for me at least.

I had same issue on Vostro 1500 ( same system diff name) and same drivers. Try 174.93 BEST DRIVERS I have ever had on this lappy. I am able to play Assasins creed with 2 on detail and 3 on quality (1440 X 900) whereas with other drivers I have to play 1 quality and one detail (1280 X 800 ). with a 5 FPS boost

Don't forget to uninstall the old driver first before installing the new one. That may be the cause of some errors.

The stuttering is notorious in the 8600M GT (the freezing) . There`s not much you can do but defrag your hdd and get newer drivers(174.93 for example)

What do you mean by the stuttering? Are you referring to that particular game, or in general? I wasn't aware that there was a recognised stuttering issue with the 8600M GT...

Depends on the game, and i believe 174.74 performs awesome, you should try 169.28.... (yes, go back to those) , then come back to 174.xx
    ...

    Cheers!

Search the forums for 8600GT stuttering issue and read the really big thread discussing this particular issue. You might have it or you might not since it's not a universal problem.

Really!? Well that just sucks! I don't remember stuttering issues when I first recieved my laptop though... I think I'm just about to give up on the whole thing and just bring my desktop up to my apartment. It's very sad that my laptop is having problems with games like WoW and Guild Wars that specifically designed to run on lower systems. :(

Thanks for your help guys and gals. I'm defragging my HDD as I type this and hopefully that will help a little bit.

What are your control panel settings? I have the same system config as you but my games seem to run horribly
