    Which one is better and by how much? The reason I'm asking is because i really want to get the HP pavillion dv9500t but i think the GS might not be as powerful as the GT so i might be forced into getting a Dell Inspiron 1720. What do you guys think, sacrifice the more powerful video card and get the HP which i really want, or get the Dell with the more powerful card?

    It depends, we can best help you if you post an FAQ in the "what notebook should i buy" section.

    It mostly depends on if your going to be gaming.

    It does depend on what kind of games are being played but off the top of my head...the 8600GT is WAY better. I've heard that the 8600GS is similar to the 8400. If you want to play recent games and new ones that are in the making the 8600GT is definetly the right choice.

    ==========

    So basically i need to squeeze as much power out of this laptop. I want to play next-gen games but not sacrifice my processor or screen size in the process. I would like to have a Core 2 Duo T7300 but I'm still not sure whether to get a 15 or 17 inch and whether to get a dell or HP. Are there any other brands out there that can give me a deal like dell can. Right now i get a student discount from dell for 4%.

    Check the specs on both models. HP underclocks their cards, so in reality, the performance difference might not be that noticeable.
