Hey,
I'm new to the forum, so if there has already been a post about this I apologize, but I did do a search.
During a e-mail conversation with Eurocom, I was told the following about a potential configuration of a m570ru.
In case you didn't catch the relevant part:
This is great newsThis means that the laptop owners will soon have some added dx10 graphics power! The first thing that I though then was, will I be able to upgrade if I buy a 8700m or 7950GTX now?
In another e-mail:
Awesome!!!
Anyway, thought I would let you guys know. Seems that the 8800 is coming to notebooks with the name 8700GTX!
BTW- all this information comes from the Clevo reseller, Eurocom.

pretty cool if it's true

The info came from the owner of Eurocom, so I hope so

Needless so say Nvidia's names are getting very descriptive. Not only is it GTX, but it's Ultra too. With such a long name to market it's power, I wonder why they just didn't straight out call it a 8800M? I think 8800M would be much more catchy anyways, in an easy understood sort of way.
I'm betting they aren't calling it a 8800M because it won't be related to the 8800. The early 2008 timeframe combined with the retention of the 8700 title, points to it being a highly overclocked 65nm shrink of the 8700M GT. Even overclocked I doubt the 8700GTX Ultra will truly be desktop 8800 performance level. Otherwise the would call it a 8800M. The 8700M GT slots in between the desktop 8600GT and 8600GTS, so the 8700M GTX Ultra likely slots between the 8600GTS and the 320MB 8800GTS. It probably nips at the heals of the 8800GTS enough that they can claim 8800 level performance. -

soo, if it is taking them this long to make a graphics card for a notebook, imagine the nine series.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Its all business guys. Once ati finally gets their 2xxx series line into laptops (in the mainstream that is not just a few, like the 8 series is) then nvidia goes guess what 8700 (whatever version) is here. Then when ati releases its 2700 or 2800 nvidia announces 9 series. Like chess, gotta think a few moves ahead.

Forerunner has it on the head. Nvidia has no reason to come out with anything right now. They'll save it until just after the ATI stuff is out, then pounce on them. Unfortunately, I too was one of the many that wanted to wait for DX10 enthusiast cards for mobile, but thats still a while off.

Guess I'll stick with the 8700 in the NP5790.
-
What do you mean? NP5790 = M570RU, so you can upgrade it. If you have the money, that is. I better start pulling weeds now if I wanna have enough by the time it comes out.

I'm more inclined to agree its an overclocked 8700, or perhaps the 64 shader 256-bit card we've all been waiting for. (hey, I can dream, right?) I highly doubt it will match the 8800. ATI's got nothing that can match the 8800 GTX on the desktop market; like forrunner says, its likely they are just waiting for good ATI cards before springing the trap. I can see 8700 GTX U -> HD 2900 -> 8800 M GTS/GTX in that order. However it turns out, it will be good for the end user assuming nVidia and ATI can get their product launches in line.

And next year is a way off still, if you wait until then to buy assuming this rumor is true, there will be some thing else better coming in 5 months from that time too. Holding out for the next great thing in technology is a function with a time limit of infinite.
Nvidia 8700GTX Ultra (NOT 8700m GT) to be released early 2008
