    Gday
Having heard all the hype about 8800M GTX and so on , Nvidia have another card the GTS with 64 shader processors and a 256 bus , does anybody out there know what laptops will it be offered in . This card is still a nice step up from the 8700 in a big way , it might be more affordable than lappas equiped with the GTX , my budget would be around 1300-1400 max , so maybe GTS laptops might come at this price range rather than 2000 pounds.
    cheers

I imagine it will be offered in most major Clevo models (M570RU, D901C) but so far there haven't been too many major announcements about the GTS, and only a few have even made mention of the GTX.

I`m guessing the GTS will be a cheaper version for the same laptops that sport the 8800M GTX. Hardly below 2000$, I just found out a single 8800M GTX GPU costs 745$ !

Yes... but dont forget... GTS will come out after GTX...

$750 it is... but only when upgrading... companies buy bulk etc... so its cheaper...

m15x Alienware 15 inch with 8800gtx is $1799 or $1899 I think... so dont give up hopes man... Im sure there will be sub $2000 8800gts lappies by the summer

Cheers dudes , its crap I might have to wait till summer for the GTS but hopefully alienware will offer it instead of the 8700 as an alternative to the GTX
I just about brought an alienware m9750 in Nov but cancelled it.

As far as Clevo machines are concerned I think there are a lot of upset 9260/9261 and 5790/5791 owners relating to the 8800. Apparently we need a whole new motherboard if we want it (totally insane since some people already had to replace the mob just to accomodate quad core not so long ago). Check out the con here:

lesson= CLEVO user upgradeability means you have to replace the motherboard!

I needed a 15.4" and wanted to wait for a 256-bit DX10 card. I read on this forum that it was impossible to get a 256-bit card into a 15.4" laptop. I purchased a laptop with a DDR3 8600GT because I thought that was a good as it gets for a 15.4"...

Everyone will just have to wait and see what Alienware does, and other manufacturers will follow suit. They may be able to fit into a 15.4" laptop, but big will that laptop be. I'd rather go with a slimmer 17" then a 2" thick 15.4

    did you see the m17x?

    that beast is THICK

anyway, i'm the opposite of you. i'd rather have uber thick lappy and a 15inch screen then slim 17'.

i just think that being thicker = more durable and doesn't look so ridiculous on a uni desk

i really want to see the battery life on such a BEAST

Yeah but the last thing I want it to crack open the laptop in class or in the library and have everyone stare at me because of the amount of sound it's producing. Yet alone lug a 12lb laptop to class or the library.

There was a girl in my undergrad that had some old XPS that used to sit next to me and every time her computer would get going the whole classroom would know. And I always laughed at her for it.

Ok... I really dont think the m15x nor the m17x will be that thick,....

Go look at pics and videos... I also heard that it will be along the lines of m9750 thickness... which is actually thinner than a Dell 17XX (XX being whatever)

I believe Alienware wil be able to fit a "256 bit" card in a 15.4 inch lappie.... matter of a fact... I think they already have and are testing it...

And why wouldnt a 256 bit one NOT fit in it... it was just a matter of time until 8800m cam out... which was the last quarter of the year...
