    Hello folks!

Last month I bought the Gigabyte P25X v2. It seemed like a great deal to me, not too bulky, and the 880m card appeared to be the fastest available.

After a couple of weeks I noticed the 880m was getting far lower frame rates for some reason. (It had never been amazing to start with, tbh.) Then I plunged into the geforce forums and techinferno and with horror I realised that something is wrong with these 880m's. There seems to be some inherent flaw with them that nvidia aren't addressing, or even acknowledging. The throttling on this thing is extreme - I'm getting less than a quarter of the advertised power from it now.

Cut to now, and I've spent days trying different configurations, different drivers, and managed to flash the vbios with svl7's modded version. Nothing seems to make any difference. A couple of people have suggested using the 327.23 driver with a modded inf file (as the card is essentially a 780M?) but I haven't managed to find the appropriate Gigabyte settings to change the inf file.

Can anybody help? If this laptop worked it would be just perfect for me.

    thanks....!

i would keep trying some different drivers, maybe even older versions. if the drivers don't work i would try contacting gigabyte and seeing if they can fix it with a replacement gpu or replace the laptop as a whole.

After we check temperatures we will be able to help more. If it's overheating it's not a problem that will be fixed via software. If it's NOT overheating in any way, you're good for a warranty replacement. And honestly? Probably a 980M if they can't fix it.

^^ Yupp, I would say you are pretty lucky even. Just hang in there until 880m version is discontinued and every shop sells 980m version. Then RMA it and boom! You got yourself a free upgrade (this is the case if the soldered GPU is faulty).

Thanks everyone. By deleting and resetting everything to stock it's back to its original performance. What a load of hassle! Although there's something peculiarly compelling about all this detective work. I think it's a man thing.

It's a techie thing. Wait till you find a woman who takes apart and puts back together her Alienware 18 and see how your nerd senses tingle XD.

Hmm, Am I coming to the party late ? How are you getting on with the laptop now?

I also have a P25XV2 and have found that occasionally the PCI-Express gets b0rked back to 1x and remains stuck there. This usually happens if I switch to battery only. going back to full power does not re-engage PCI-Ex3 /16 or what ever GPUz is meant to report.

The software appears to try to be too clever about adjusting GPU output. Check your advanced power settings as well and ensure the PCI Express power management settings in there are all switched off.

With latest beta gfx drivers from nvidia elite dangerous runs vsync'd at 60 fps constantly now, ( I think without vsync its about 100-120fps )

I also have laptop on a "desk arm" to increase ventilation around it.

I love the laptop apart from this occasional b0rk. I especially like the fact that the battery doubles up as a detachable and very usable nightstick :)

Lol at the battery.. I'm not surprised with all this crap.. Gigabyte/Arorus try too much to screw around and "optimise" the performance in their laptops.. Sometimes it better to not do all of this and keep your hands of it as much as possible...
