It may not be a renamed GF8800GT, but will likely perform worse than one closer to a GF8800GS or at best the crippled GF8800GT-256, so the desire to have one is somewhat limited compared to the GF8800M series.
As for the 'different design' not really, no major change to the architecture, just change in ratios of shaders:TMUs:ROPs , and the new features are PureVideo related so nothing close to everyone's hoped for DX10.1.
