Hello,
i have read a few threads on this forum and some others and it seems to me that the 9.5 GS series have some real problems. Real. Sorry if i am missing a thread that deals with this but i couldn't find a solution anywhere...
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 obviously doesnt work very well with 9.5 cards! Or am i the only one?![]()
After some time (when the card wants it) the game freezes, the graphics drivers fail and the game becomes unplayable. The same situation is described in this thread ;
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18947&st=20
This however happens with the 174.51 ForceWare version - the screen goes black - vista reports driver failure and the game becomes unresponsive.
With 175.61 - the textures reload,the blue fog encircles the world, fps fall down from 75 to barely 20 etc...
So it is not working in any case!
Here is the deal - maximum GPU temp is 64*C which is okey since Crysis barely made it to 62*C so it seems to me that R6V2 is even more intense for the GPU?!***?! (sorry)
Core 1 Max = 50*C Min.= 36*C
Core 2 Max = 53*C Min.= 36*C
The same thing happens with Far Cry 1 - with the same symptoms!
I have tried reinstalling both drivers and it didn't work, except the crash is a bit different. The first time it happened the LCD switched off and i thought; "OMG, fu..., i lost it! NOOOOO!!!!" ****.Ctrl-Alt-Del woke me up. Everything is ok....
I would really like to know what is the deal here, so please if someone can help me with this problem? Thank you in advance, at least for trying!
SYSTEM SPECS:
Acer Aspire 6920G
2.1 Ghz Core 2 Duo T8100
GeForce 9500M GS 512mb GDDR3
4GB Ram

16"HD LCD
That's it ... Thanks!

I believe if you dig up about the 84/86 issue that happened a month or two ago. You can read that the 9500 has a heating issue. I believe they reused the core from the 84/86 but from what I heard, the new laptop should have the 8 series and 9 series soldered properly.
-
Nope, seems i am the within the lucky few. It is definetely a driver issue this time...
The "un-official" (Acer "requires" that all users of their laptops download drivers from their page, which has not been changed for months!) driver version 176.26 forceware seems to be much better. The game still has issues with textures but it recovers in a few seconds.... Funny thing...
If it was a problem with overheating then the monitor would record a nasty temperature - in the time of the last crash - the temperature was;
Nice 61*C, so i don't think it's overheating. And if it was, a lot of other games (Crysis,COD4,GRAW1 & 2, Vegas 1, Splinter Cell series, FEAR, Stalker...) run without any problems....
Any suggestions? -
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the only game where I have lots of problems with GPU downclocking and such.
-
Did you completely uninstall old driver with driversweeper before updating?
-
As i can see, you have this fine product as well - did you have any problems with it?
I am going to play R6V2 for an hour or more until it breaks down - and if it doesn't, well - then it is fixed.
But, FC1 and R6V2 are the only ones with a problem!I don't get it...
Which drivers do you use if i may ask? -
I really can't believe it. And the laptop has become my only true love (****, i going to get it in my head if my wife sees this..)....
-
Okay I have that video card and I must say I am jealous of such temperatures
I have the same problem but it seldom happens, and the last game that caused it was Condemmed Criminal Origins.
My GPU max temp is 85 C so I am more that amazed at such temps of 60 c max temp when those are my idle temps!
Hope you find a solution to your problem, mine when away with drivers+a little underclock so I never actually reach 85C -
Yeah, unfortunately that's probably the heat issue with these cards. Some obviously shipped right and some didn't. Sorry for your card...
Well in idle mine is 55*C so it's not a problem, the highest it goes is 66*C at least for now, the laptop is 8 months old so... who knows... God forbid.
This is a photo of the system status;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gallery/showfull.php?photo=1458
However it is rather cryptical;
The first part of the image is just after a "small crash" (FPS drop-no other problems) showing GPU temp,core clock and CPU temp and clock.
And the second part is during play and after play...
Are these normal readings or should i be worried about my chips? Or is it just probably drivers combined with bad-game-coding from UbiSoft?
Thanks! -
asus have bad cooling for the card. And mine still downclocked, so I don't have anymore hint.
-
Oh well, it seems to me that the older the drivers - the bigger the problems.
1. 167.xx crashed with a black screen and all went to hell and back
2. 175.61 reloading textures and sudden FPS drops + blue fog of death
3. 176.26 just FPS drops....
4. Maybe 179.xx will fix everything !
Who knowns....
But thanks for the ideas anyway... It gave me strength to go through the hell to realize that i will just have to wait...
@matmat07 - What's wrong with your acer ? -
The 3d perfomance driver-level gets kind of locked, I can't use it anymore until I restart the laptop. It only happened in UT3, but it's the only game I have to test with. The game freeze after some time then I have to use low 3d driver level(lose ~15 fps)

My laptop has never had any heating issues. I also have the Acer 6920G. Using GPU-Z, my current drivers are 179.28 for Vista 32-bit and have no downclocking since I use Powermizer Switch.
-
Maybe try using Dox optimised drivers with the modded inf 180.84
-
I have an Acer Aspire 6920G
Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0 GHz- GeForce 9500M GS (475/950/400)- 250GB
16" LCD - 4GB DDR2-667 - Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
I installed my graphics forceware to 180.84 Dox...
I am only getting 3dmark06 score of 2724 (SM2.0 - 1296, HDR/SM3.0 - 1317 CPU - 562)with the standard settings....
New games like NFS Undercover and all are framing badly... Older games like NFS Most wanted work really well (like i've mentioned b4)...
Can anyone please help on how i can safely improve my graphics and gaming performance? I wudnt mind overclocking , but i'm not so sure.... Rivatuner or software oc utilities dont work cos acer has locked oc and it reverts back to original... so i cant even find out which frequencies are best and stable... pls help... -
Your shader scores look fine, but your CPU score is very low (~half of what I'd expect). The problem is likely with the CPU rather than with the GPU.
Check to see if your CPU is throttled (do you use Rivatuner?) I had this problem a few months ago. -
hm... how do i chk if my cpu is throttled? is there anyway to increase the score rather than changing the processor?
