So my family is going to buy a new labtop, we've found 2 that fit what we need besides minor differences (15.6 vs 16 in screen+50$ dif.) What graphics card is better the 9600 Gt or the 9800 Gs.

I've searched around but i don't know alot about computers so i'm having a hard time w/ comparing them.

Short version= 9600 Gt or the 9800 Gs and why?

    Thnx for any advice..

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

Please read the stickies before posting.

    Read the GPU Guide.

    9600M GT is a mid-range card (128-bit memory interface)

    9800M GS is a high-end card (256-bit)

performance difference is about twice as much.

9800 GS easily, mostly due to its 256 bit bus. It will perform better in games and in some GPU accelerated editing software.

9800GS all the way, it's a newer card, has double the bus width and higher clocks. If the price difference is that minimal, this card is the only way to go!

the 9800m GS is about 50% more powerful, since it has twice the bus with (128 vs 256) and twice the shader processors (32 vs 64).

If you want gaming as a primary thing in life, the 9800GS would be the way to go, if it's not that important but casual, the 9600 is a very good card.
