...er... wild crazy guess? The routine used to look up the id of the card somehow failed (which happens before the entire profile thing is written to somewhere on the disk). Meaning - unless a bios flash went awry - the interface to the nvidia firmware is unavailable, or the access to the firmware stored somewhere.. usually in the efi bios space via some hook is disabled. Which can at least happen if the nvidia card device is disabled, or if the driver service isn't running properly.

But I'd guess first at that the driver has been installed from a different user-account, or the program files folder has different access rights that the current account doesn't have access to.

Mm. Try reinstalling the driver package first. And just make sure that you are logged in with your normal account, and don't "run as admin". I.e., you want to run the thing as your normal user, and then elevate privileges for that installation routine, and so on, while logged in as your normal user.

If that doesn't work for some reason, you could try logging in as admin, and then install the driver and make sure all the other users on the system can also use the same paths and the service, etc.

I'm just guessing out of nothing here, though :p Have you just installed this? Did you also install the intel display drivers and the chipset drivers? Did you upgrade from one driver version to another? Did you just update to WinX, does the graphics card actually work just fine, except you don't seem to be able to access the profiles? Things like that would make it possible to figure out what it might actually be.

just uninstall with DDU, run CCleaner registry cleaner and then reboot and reinstall the driver. Should be fine after that.

Eh..? So... loogically.. the profile files were there, and they were accessible, but corrupted somehow?

Or.. else the driver that was installed on the system comes from.. 2009, or something..? And that driver is what you reverted to just now, or partially reverted to, so the profile data format works again..?

Are you absolutely sure it's working all right? :p ..At least keep in mind if it happens again after the next update, that you need to remove the existing driver completely, like Awhisper^ said up there.
