Nvidia has not even specified a release date for the desktop 9th series. SO THIS is just a "more to be continued" kind of laptop....
The asus with the HD 3860, now that is news!

"NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS 512MB VRAM External 512MB VRAM,"

This could be one of those external video enclosers? Why does it imply external? I am curious :)

External VRAM means the VRAM is not on the video card I believe. That means it is easy for manufacturers to add video memory to the card.

I guess but if they have the 9500m GS then the 9600m GT can't be that far away? (even though the desktop 9xxx series isn't out yet.)

Considering the desktop 9 series hasn't even seen the light of day, I wouldn't fret about this upgrade. If anything the lower end 9 series are just to support DX10.1 no telling if their will even be a performance increase.

they're not going to hit the 9 series on the market just yet. since the 8 series really just came out *yes i know, this is technology time, not real time frame, but still*, they would end up wasting tons of money be releasing the 9 series now. when ATI decides to start doing theirs, and after a good amount of time when prices start to drop on 'em, then they'll reveal the 9 series.

Damn you Nvidia by making me look cheaper each year. And that $199 spent on a GF 8800 GT... *sigh* Screw them if a GF 9800 GT arrives within 6 months.

Meh. And I thought I'd have to wait longer for the Geforce 9 series for my laptop. I'll probably wait for the GF 10 series instead.

Yep yep, I cant wait to see how it performs i need a new laptop and my memory in it has just recently got bad.

But my laptop is now old.

    Turion 64 @2ghz
1gb of ram (the stick needs to be replaced)
    80gb hard drive
    x700 128mb

I would love to have a 9500M gs especially if its a decent boost over the 8600m gt.

I really hope it is, maybe they shrunk the core added more sharers and hopefully a 256bit memory controller.

Anyways.... if this 9500m is crap, ATI has 3400/3600's coming out.
    Its official.

3600 I think is for 15.4 inch notebooks which is what i want.
maybe nvidia is just waiting to counter that with 9500m

Couldn't this just be the dieshrink? I mean, the 8800GT is G92, and the 9800GX2 seems to be dual G92's. So the 9600 is maybe "just" G94 (or whatever the midrange will be), hence the 8800M GTX (G92)won't be replaced.

The HD 3K & Geforce 9 ARE die shrink supporting DX10.1. The mobility 3600 specs are the same as the HD 2600, but 374 shaders (like the 2900XT BTW) rather than 120.

so then its likely the 9500m has more shaders then the 8600M?

I hope its a much better card atleast on par with the 8700M.
Lets say 8700M to half way to 8800M? lol but thats probably wishful thinking.

Who knows maybe they added a 256bit memory interface also? ...but unlikely.

If they release a 9600M it will probably be like that.

The 9500, as the 2nd number implies, isn't a "gaming" card so. My opinion is the 9500M would be between the 8600M GS and the GT

Is the 9 series going to be better than the 8800m's, which were just released, TWO WEEKS AGO. If so, won't nVidia be shooting themselves in the foot? With Quad SLi and Quad Core CPU, gaming will never be the same.

Ya I didnt like the name of 9500gs.... but then again maybe they should have named the 8600, 8500 lol.

ehhh we'll see. Either way it would be wise to wait for a new laptop right?

By mid year there should be 3600's which will be better then 8600M gt's and possibly a 9600.

Although i cant wait to get something better :( lol.

The 8600M gs is faster than the 8500GT. The 7600GS is faster than the 8500GT.

    There's a rule with nVidia. Never buy a their products that contain 5 (8500, 7500, 5500 etc.).

9500 may not be any better than the 8600 even. Who knows? Look at the desktop 8500 GT. I'd take a 7600 GT over the 8500 any day.

hey guys,,from chinese IT website pconline.com.cn,,there is latest review of asus's m50s which installed 9500gs,,there is the 3dmark result:
    pconline.com.cn.jpg
seems not bad right,,actually as the author said,,9500gs just is the same core(g84) as 8600m gt except 9500gs can obtain more share memory from system..
    9500gs.jpg
it is obvious that nvidia is playing a game which upgrades its display card's level without any creative features.

    mehhh so its crap lol.

What about 9600m gt, when it coming out(not that anyone knows)?
If its not coming out soon, I'll probably just get a laptop now and be happy.

it is hard to tell if 9500gt will have any difference between "gs",,but i think the next potential core should be 9600m which will published in feb 14th,,desktop version should come out soon and nb's would take more time to serve the market.
9600 is a brand new design and nv's powerful weapon hits the $100-$120 market and claimed 90% stronger than 8600gt,,so may be you can notice more a little bit..
