GeForce 461.09 for Windows 10 is causing crashes and performance issues windowslatest - January 15, 2021

Earlier this month, Nvidia started rolling out GeForce 461.09 for Windows 10 with security and general bug fixes. GeForce 461.09 update doesn’t come with any game-specific optimization or features – but some gamers have experienced major problems after applying the patch.

According to numerous reports on online forums, GeForce 461.09 is causing FPS drops, stuttering, performance issues and app crashes. It’s also unclear if some of these issues are linked to Windows 10 January 2021 cumulative update, which was also released recently.

Yeah, it fits the bill below :)

Let's see how much this driver will destroy for the users :D Please post bench results.

I think I will stay on the driver I am using now until I can't use it any more for some reason. Right now I cannot identify any good reason to bother with a newer GPU driver. Total waste of time and potentially a performance-killer. Well, for that matter, I cannot see any reason to update drivers for anything right now. Everything works correctly. I'd be a silly dumb-dumb to screw with it with everything working correctly. But, I know a lot of people believe in unicorns and chase them in their dreams. Very similar to constantly chasing newer drivers. Not a particularly smart thing to do unless they are troubleshooting some kind of problem.

Can you share which driver version you are using? Since you do thorough testing it would be good for me to use that if ever I find an issue with this current driver. Thanks.

It depends on the GPU. Using a driver released before the hardware usually doesn't work as well. Overall, the best drivers are often the first or second driver release for a new GPU. NVIDIA is often focusing on performance and stability the most on a new flagship GPU. Dealing with glitchy games often follows later, after the world has a chance to see how the new product performs before the unstable game trash has to be dealt with to keep the kiddos from rioting in their forums.

For 1080 I had the best results using the 418.XX drivers. For 2080 Ti the best drivers to use are the 425.XX (I used 425.31 the most). They produce the highest benchmark scores and are the most stable. For 3090 i am getting the best results overall with 456.XX (using 456.55 and 456.71 seems about the same). For my cancerous Windoze OS X crash test dummy OSes I use the lastest digital filth from NVIDIA and Micro$lop to see what happens.

Anyone can tell me if you have a dual gpu system, uhd 630 and nvidia card, if you need to install optimus when using nvslimmer? I usually do just be covered but in ncp it says windows manages this. Still on 460.79
