NVIDIA Releases Game Ready 496.13 WHQL GeForce Graphics Driver, Support Removed for Windows 8.1/8/7 & Kepler
In addition, this release is unique because it lacks the standard, non-DCH driver version that NVIDIA usually releases, in addition to the DCH driver. Today's release contains the DCH version of the driver only, pushing Microsoft's DCH driver packaging technique as the way forward. Both AMD and Intel have been shipping DCH drivers exclusively for a long time. On NVIDIA, the only significant difference is that the classic driver control panel is gone and that you'll have to download the UWP version through the Microsoft App Store.
We reached out to NVIDIA, who confirmed that R495 is the latest version with support for Windows 7/8.x, and that they'll focus on Windows 10/11 DCH going forward.
Let's see how much this new driver will destroy for the usersPlease post bench results. Because new has to be better @Falkentyne @Mr. Fox

NVIDIA removed features and product support, but the driver file is larger than it has ever been. Absolute clown show.

That would explain why I couldn't find the standard files using the beta link. Mindless automatons seem to be the direction we're getting herded.

As I was expecting when they released their plans for the new drive branch, What a disaster is this ? No more NVCP, and no more Win7/8.1 support as well. Big F really to all the folks who are using "PC". Since I do not intend to play newer AAA or Win11 garbage not a big loss but at some point need to use an OS which is Win10 LTSC and there's no option except to use DCH garbage trash... People voted with their Win10 installations that Win7 is not okay for them despite the fact Z590 and X570 both run Windows 7 perfectly fine and receives updates still (Simplix pack can do that for you). WaaS POS Win10 is what they want...Now people will feel the wrath of M$ more than ever. Still I see many are enjoying Win11 POS so in the future it's even worse 100%
Remember the fear mongering campaign for the Win7 and USB3.0 ? On top M$ removing NVMe Hotfix update for Win7, plus one more bonus is I fear the X670 and Z690 LGA1700 and AM5 are going to remove CSM support altogether, that will 100% ensure Win7 becomes even more impossible to run.
Also some people whined about NVCP being slow and archaic in terms of design which btw works perfectly fine despite being slow, I wonder how Nvidia is going to ruin that as well. UWP NVCP is the beginning... the worse is yet to come.
Bonus is any Nvidia GPU launched after today is only going to have DCH driver support, all those 30 series SUPER refreshes will not run on Win7/8.1 nor have a normal driver anymore only DCH garbage is the way to go. Only small thing we have left anymore is NVCleanInstall which will install the NVCP without BS MS Store for now.
Why did Win11 have a massive push for UWP and Win32 free hosting of Applications along with Payment processing freedom and literally taking zero money cut from the developers on their new MS Store ? Centralized software distribution. That's it. Same like Linux which always needs to be connected to the repositories. Windows no matter what until today it was always open to install any application now it's becoming worse and worse. This is not just M$. Google also, they started to enforced AAB system, bundle instead of .apk which means a portion of code is packed by Google Play and signed by the keys as well (which Google owns not the developer anymore) and you need to download the whole bundle not a single apk for all new applications on top ARM will kill 32bit in 2022 SoCs all old apps are going to die. All this is because of simple one reason - Tracking. Apple garbage always did this, the rest are simply following.
ASUS bloatware is DCH only, MSI Dragon Bloat is UWP DCH, Alienware AWCC is DCH trash only, Nvidia is DCH, Intel is DCH every single thing is going to be DCH ONLY. All the zombie tracking Win11 systems will have DSE disabled because of Secure Boot and slowly everything will be locked down, Win11 is phase 2, first phase was WaaS - Win10 and etc. I wonder how phase 3 will be..
Welcome to George Orwell's 1984.
Anyways this is interesting if you see...there's going to be fragmentation but I wonder if any of these will have Standard Drivers or it's DCH ONLY, thanks to someone on TPU posting the link for this, which we all saw anyways when Kepler was going to be EOLed.

Wow that sucks no more support for even 780ti/750ti/680? Man I feel old. And even win7/8 wow that's terrible. Isn't Win8 still in service life? They don't even try to hide the monopoly across the whole industry anymore do they. At least you can still get archived drivers but I wouldn't count on it, almost have to archive what you need yourself if you are trying to hold on to older, perfectly fine OS and hardware. I get the graphics tech updates but come on. These guys are the ones who would sell an improved spoon, wheel or shovel etc if they had the muscle to enforce it. That mentality is pretty evident for the last couple years all over.

Even though i havent had any problems with DCH drivers but its still dumb to be forced to use the store in order to install the settings panel.

Uh that's what I meant, the latest win8 supported. No I don't need advice on drivers, it's obvious I need win10 drivers if I'm on win10, IF there are no supported drivers for my win7/8pointONE system then yes it makes sense to keep the last few that DO support my system, sheesh people can get annoying on here.

Anyways i kinda wanna try out these drivers, Any performance gains with them with Turing and Ampere GPUs? -
As well, the Maxwell-based 800m series GPUs will also continued to be supported. -
who the heck uses windows 8/8.1 or 7 in 2021
windows 7 was my favorite but i switched to 10.....tweaked and im happy...but 7? driver support i thought ended a long time ago..
as for the wet kiss......never hurt anyone eh papsunlogic likes this. -
Yeah guess I saw 780 Ti and the other 7xx cards assumed it was all of them. Uh I can see NON-gamers using win7/EIGHT POINT ONE still if they only do basic computer stuff. Like with a phone, phone calls/texting etc don't require much past a flip phone. Oh and I don't direct comments to anyone in particular, IF I QUOTE someone specifically THEN YES. Oof. site's def dying.

lol yeah...im aware of the wet kisses and all....but honestly about windows 7 yes it was flippin perfect for most and only god knows why microsoft changed the recipe but they did and thats the reality we will all have to live with.....im currently testing windows 11....its not bad its ok so far some things are cool and it looks better than 7 or 10..but i hate the 10 yearold kid navigation like they simplified it too much...
ask yourself this why simplify the simple?
next time you see someone on the street and they look smart ask them if col sanders won the civil war...

hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Nothing but issues with these drivers.
Call Of Duty Cold War kept crashing to desktop.
Call of Duty Warzone refused to boot up at all with a stupid ntdll.DLL error.
This was on a Clean install of Windows 10 and clean game installs. Back to ones prior all works fine.

Its been a nightmare, if it wasn't for how I have Windows setup as in User profile and chocolatey I'd be fuming by now.

My display was constantly freezing up with this 496.13, the audio would keep playing but I'd be hard locked and had to hold down the power button. This wasn't even in gaming, just working on the desktop and web browsing.
Went back to 472.12 since it was all I had downloaded, and haven't had a hard lock since.Ashtrix, JRE84, hacktrix2006 and 2 others like this. -
Huh, I haven't had any issues with this version yet. Obviously there's a bug if this many people are having a problem.
